Re: Turnbull
I think Turnball will survive until the election, who else would want to take the party into an almost sure defeat?
But he is toast after that.
And when the costs of Labor's pre-mature commitment to cap and trade (cap and trade being a way to commoditize pollution so that wealthy countries can afford to continue to create it and poor countries can not afford to produce it, meet the new boss, same as the old boss) when those costs come in to the Australian voter and there is a backlash, thanks to Turnball the Liberals can not capitalize on the issue.
I liked Turnball when he first challenged, but he, like many businessmen, has no serious grasp of the nature of politics, no natural feel for the party and ideology of his party, unlike Howard. (Any baboon can make a lot of money, all you have to do is give your life over to one economic idea and grab, grab, grab, this is why so many business people are so fucking boring. They only know one thing and are usually oblivious to the plurality of life.)
Tuckey said on ABC radio Howard, even if he had wanted cap and trade, would have went into the caucus room, observed the division and said "hey boys, I got this wrong, let's throw it to an inter party committee, three pro, three against and see what they come up with down the line", Turnball just said "my way or the highway" and has now locked the Liberals into an economic policy that will be very unpopular when the cost comes due.

Re: Turnbull
Wow, the knives are out.
Maybe he is gone before the election?
Who would want to lead the Liberal Party into that Waterloo?

Re: Turnbull
The Libs are going to go to the polls with some sort of "green" policy... I doubt it'll be much different to Mal's.
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."
Re: Turnbull
Ya know......this is all about Rudd and Copenhagen. Abbott has made public statements about why ought the Libs allow Rudd to go there with Australia ready to deal. That is the only political bonus I can see in this for the Libs........deny Rudd kudos on the international stage.
Wow, big deal, and very small potatoes in Australia.
If the Libs do not allow this through, okay, Rudd goes to Copenhagen without the jollies, but I'll bet he slams the fuck out of the Libs with a double dissolution held early 2010, and at that election the Libs/Nats will be wiped off the political landscape in Australia for at least two terms. Rudd has teeth as well as balls.
Turnbull has a sense of honour and I admire him for that. He also knows that the electorate will landslide against the Coalition on this issue.

Re: Turnbull
I like outsider, long shots and I especially always barrack for the under-dog. I reckon Turnbull is 100% correct in fighting these right wing arseholes within the Libs. I always had some respect for the bloke, but I really admire his grit, resolve and personal integrity in standing up against the noisy mob, whatever their number is. He believes he doing the right and proper thing both politically and environmentally.........he will not bet on the Planet, and neither will blokes like Rupert Murdoch.............and he also has the balls to say that he and McFarlane lead the making of a deal with the Government, and it is a matter of honour that the "word" of the Liberal Party, once given on its behalf by the Leadership, is bankable.
I reckon he will survive this, given all of what I have already said, but also because Hockey had made his bed which is, that he will not offer himself as a Candidate if Turnbull is also a candidate.

Re: Turnbull
Perhaps he could swap over to the ALP once they give him the boot?

Re: Turnbull
Read late yesterday that Abbott is now saying he won't stand if Hockey does, becaus ehe doesn't want the leadership at thsi time. So- is thi sall an Abbott plan to make sure he is th eonly viable leader going in to a later elecion they have a chance of winning? (ie gettign rid of two birds- Hockey and Turnbull with one stone? )
It would surely only be bad for ht eLiberals if Abott led.

Re: Turnbull
I agree RM, Abbot is the best leader for the Liberal Party right now..Hockey is a likeable kind of guy but he is a bit lightweight ..Abbot has more the charisma , smarts and stability to be a solid leader. What the Libs need esp now.
