another FAKE CANCER mongrel..
https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/ ... be702025e4
TO many Tony Petrovski is a hardworking breadwinner for his family who has been bravely battling cancer.
Yet the affable travel agent from Shellharbour on the South Coast has found himself at the centre of an alleged tale of fraud that has even surprised police.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal Mr Petrovski stands accused of weaving a web of lies at the small firm where he worked for nine years and was last week charged by police with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Police allege he fleeced his employer Imperial China Tours in Sydney’s CBD of hundreds of thousands of dollars and allegedly faked a rare aggressive cancer which he used to request 25 days’ sick leave.
Sources told The Daily Telegraph an internal audit revealed $429,318 in 82 unauthorised transactions from their coffers.
Staffers claim that the agency discovered Mr Petrovski was in fact holidaying with his family at a retreat on the Shoalhaven River when he said he was recuperating at Wollongong Hospital’s ICU.
He told his work that he had cancer and was in hospital having it removed, but the boss saw him on Facebook on holiday,” a NSW police spokesman said.
It is claimed Mr Petrovski resigned from his job last January when pushed to produce a doctor’s certificate proving he had cancer.
“I think it’s for the best,” he wrote in a text obtained by the Daily Telegraph.
“I’ve thought long and hard about this ...”
Yesterday at his new workplace in Nowra, the travel consultant said: “These are just claims, I do not have to tell you whether I had cancer or not.”
The father-of two first allegedly concocted the cancer claims in 2016 when he texted his boss that he had found a lump on his leg.
A flurry of texts then blamed nausea, sleepless nights from morphine and exhaustion for lateness and days off.
Later he said cancer had spread to his spine.
Staff claim when worried bosses called the hospital on December 27, 2016 — after Mr Petrovski said he was in ICU fighting complications — they were told the unit was shut for refurbishment.
Executives then a found December 27 Facebook post by him checking in at a public swimming pool as well as other posts with photos of him holidaying with friends at a riverside camping spot while claiming in phone texts to still be laid up in hospital.
There is no suggestion his friends knew anything about the alleged fraud.
We were all shocked and worried he would die and the manager doubled his Christmas bonus to $1000 to help pay for treatment,” one employee said.
Mr Petrovski is due to appear in court on May 23.
how do people manage to keep this deception going for so long... they must be born liars...

I agree these people are despicable. The lowest of the low, but how stupid would you be posting your con on Facebook?

The mother of a friend of mine was conned via Facebook.
A Nigerian scammer masquerading as an American single dad with a desperately ill child needing medical care.
He got 60k out of her.
True, people need to take responsibility for their online behaviour, but I don't believe blaming the victim is the solution.
The victim in this case was a vulnerable elderly woman with a big heart who lacked internet smarts.

I can't see anyone blaming the victim. In fact, I see the opposite.

Many people do though BO, blame the victims.
I agree, more needs to be done to protect people from these scammers.
Good that he's been exposed re- fake cancer.

Re: another FAKE CANCER mongrel..
I am sorry about your friend's mother and, yes, there are lots of vulnerable and lonely people out there who get scammed but why wasn't your friend alerted to the fact her mother had sent someone $60k? There must have been some indication?
In the age of the anonymous internet it is imperative that family members look out for their elderly relatives if they use the internet.
You cannot just let them loose with a computer to amuse themselves without monitoring it, even just a bit.

His mother.
There was supposedly nothing he could do, he didn't have power of attorney, has been to guardianship board since however.
60k too late unfortunately.
