Acting like locusts is not playing to our strong suit, Frogen.

Not really, Froggo.

We are digging into Gaia's "savings", when we up production via the use of fossil fuels.

Oil/coal/gas is basically energy that the earth has stored away.

If we want to use it wisely, we need to use this bonus, easily available energy to lift ourselves past our dependence on it as quickly as possible, rather than for purely short term self gratification via consumption for consumption's sake.

Once the concept of fossil fuels did not exist, once the concept of fire did not exist. We are the locusts who make more, and will again if we are forced to, evolutionarary and enviromental force being our driving force.

If you want the species to continue to "boom", you've got to use any insights that that big brain provides, to avoid the "busts" if possible, frog.

Boom and bust... part of ecology and economics. Busts are never good.

Big brain wants technology, not political ideology.

If the important resources start running low, you'll be copping some pretty interesting political ideologies, Froggo.

There's nothing like an empty belly to stir the radicals to action.

No political ideology will bring more resources, only technology and innovation (economic wealth and growth being the fuel for such things) will allow us to find more resources, new resources and use the resources we have in a more efficient manner.

No political dictate can stop the human hunger writ large for wealth and comfort.

Interesting, with the global warming debate, people in many developed countries supported government action to help stop it, they wanted to be "good" but as the first costs become apparent, even minor costs such as low watt light bulbs (inconviences) support is dropping in many countries, if they actually do produce cap and trade and there are huge costs, increased taxes, fewer jobs, more expensive energy costs, I promise you support will collapse.

People will not be poor to be good.

I remember reading after the last election one of the major reasons sited for Howard loosing his seat was that the constituency overwhelmingly supported him signing Kyoto, that he was not taking global warming seriously. Yet that wealthy constituency has one of the highest four wheel drive ownership rates in the country.

People will point to politicians and yell “do something” but they are less likely to do anything themselves if it hurts, and if Rudd signs any agreement that makes Australians hurt, they will turn on him like Chis Brown in Rihianna.
