Anyone can get hold of a gun Brian. Even here.

The gun Travis Reinking used had been confiscated from him last year but his father asked that the guns be returned to him (the father) and promised that he would keep them secure and AWAY from the son, Travis. Apparently the father decided to give the guns back to his son.

Consequently the father should be held responsible and suffer the same fate his son does. Better still the father deserves a longer sentence. Mental illness obviously runs in the family.

I am unsure if the father should be punished.

He should be admonished for trusting his son. His son obviously had mental problems which his father did not admit to.

The point however, is that Americans believe they have a "right" to own a firearm. Downunder we only have a privilege, thankfully.

I have long believed that what America needs to do about guns is accept that their "right" is limited - it is, actually in fact - they cannot own a fully-automatic firearm except under regulation. All they need to do is extend those regulations to semi-automatic firearms. What they need isn't new gun laws, they just need to enforce the existing ones.

Firstly, that is the exact point.

It is from this initial point that we witness the disintegration that is mass school shooting.

They call themselves the worlds policeman but they aren't policing themselves.

The "kid" is 29! Dad was probably in denial that the "kid" had mental problems, may have inherited them from Dad?

I was pleased to hear that, here in Canberra, they are setting up a "place" to house those people with "severe mental problems" rather than let them roam the streets. Whoever decided that people with severe mental problems were better off out "taking care of themselves" was severely mental themselves. There is absolutely nothing wrong with limiting contact with the outside world and being TREATED, for people who are not only a danger to themselves, but a danger to the general public.

He was 29: that's a good point.

Population curves and technology interact and it's at times like this you can only thank God we don't live in America.
