Obama’s Afghan plan will include exit strategy
I hate the term “exit strategy”. Why not call it what it really is, “how do we save political face if we are defeated strategy?”
President Obama should concentrate on a “victory strategy”. That is what all great war time leaders do in a democracy. Do you think Roosevelt asked what our “exit strategy” was before D-day? Or Lincoln after the many Union defeats suffered throughout that war?
All war is open ended, all war is fluid, no war goes to plan. Strategy must change with the changing conditions of any particular war.
But there are only two ways to exit war, victory or defeat.
Exit, Stage Right.

This is a different war Frogen. The conventional war lasted 5 minutes. It is an occupation, not a war. It needs a plan. Obviously you need to adapt to the unfolding reality, but you don't just go in with a plan to make it up as you go along.

Nation building requires a plan, not an exit strategy which is the abandonment of nation building, fighting the Talaban-Al Qeada requires, as in all war, a plan that changes with changing strategic conditions, and the the exit strategy is not a plan, it is a plan to surrender.

Even worse, all through the campaign Obama declared this to be the necessary war, Iraq a diversion (he had an exit strategy for Iraq which was no surge and leave the country to civil war and Al Qaeda) yet he gets in, and despite the Bush administration leaving recommendations and deployment increase plans (possible due to the success of the Iraqi surge freeing up American personal) Obama declares in March he has a new strategy, gives, in typical Obama fashion, no details and then six months latter as the war has dramatically deteriorated under him declares he will not be rushed into a plan, but he does want an "exit strategy", a way to surrender and save face, as he would have done in Iraq in 1997.
The military has given him a plan, months ago, a 40,000 troop surge securing heavily populated areas leaving the low populated rural areas to drone and special forces offensive attacks, a plan the British concur with, indeed called for before the US military did, but his is a plan that does not recognise surrender (exit strategy) and so Obama, our Hamlet in the White House, ponders, forever ponders.

Jesus, all wars are deemed "necessary" while they're being fought. In due course, they're all called "futile".

The better I get to know people, the more I find myself loving dogs.

Are they, futile to defeat Nazism?Hebe wrote:Jesus, all wars are deemed "necessary" while they're being fought. In due course, they're all called "futile".
Futile to keep South Korea out of the gulag that is North Korea?
Futile defeat the American South and end slavery?
Futile to remove the Talban and remove many women in Afganistan from literal chattel slavery, a parliment by the way that has more women in it than Australia's or America's.
It is easy to prevent or end war in the face of agressive tyranny, submit. That is all you have to do.
Only the slave believes nothing is worth fighting for.
