I've been doing a thought experiment about living in Europe for a year and putting 1stborn into school. I reckon Italy would be my pick tho.The Grappler wrote:Had the same thought myself... old Normandy farmhouse and run tours of the battle fields... too bloody 'ard now, mate...Super Nova wrote:We have looked at buying and retiring in France.

Same here - got a couple of spots in Italia earmarked for a look.... there's a unit in Sicilia that has ocean views and a very small old stone place way down in the toe of Italy that is 600 feet above the ocean below - but no parking and the streets are wide enough for a bicycle. I doubt I could climb the hill at my age.BigP wrote:Gordon wrote:I've been doing a thought experiment about living in Europe for a year and putting 1stborn into school. https://www.9news.com.au/world/2018/03/ ... ficer-shotA French police officer who took the place of a female hostage in a supermarket standoff is fighting for his life in hospital.
Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Beltrame helped end the rampage of a gunman in southern France that killed three people and injured 12.
Mr Beltrame has been hailed as a hero after volunteering to swap himself for the hostage while managing to leave his mobile phone on throughout the siege so that police outside the supermarket in Trebes could hear what was happening inside the building.
Lakdim, a petty criminal under police surveillance, stormed the supermarket in Trebes and took hostages around 11am local time (Friday 9pm AEDT) after he held up a car, killed one person and wounded another.
He then fired six shots at police officers on their way back from jogging near the city of Carcassonne on Friday morning.
The police were not in uniform but were wearing athletic clothes with police insignia. One police officer was shot in the shoulder, but none of them were killed
Lakdim then entered a Super U supermarket in Trebes, 100km southeast of Toulouse, taking an unknown number of people hostage. Local media reported the gunman screamed "Allahu Akbar".
The shooter killed another two people in the supermarket.
The report said Lakdim claimed allegiance to Islamic State and that he demanded the release of Salah Abdeslam, the prime surviving suspect in the IS attacks that killed 130 people in Paris in 2015.
