The foster father of slain Gold Coast schoolgirl Tiahleigh Palmer will plead guilty to her murder, his lawyers have told a court.

Tiahleigh's body was found on the banks of a river on the northern Gold Coast in October 2015.

Rick Thorburn was committed to stand trial for murder in July last year.

But Mr Thorburn's lawyer Jason Jacobson told the Supreme Court in Brisbane today, the pre-trial hearing set down for next month should be dismissed and his client wished for a date to be sentenced.

The 12-year-old girl was found dead six days after she was reported missing, sparking a major review of child safety system and the protocols for children who go missing from out-of-home care.

Mr Thorburn was arrested and charged in September 2016, almost a year after Tiahleigh's body was found.

That's what I thought initially too but I haven't heard anything about it for ages. Hopefully it will all come out and hopefully the Court will not have the details suppressed.

Yes, "Trent", the 19 year old son of the foster parents was abusing the little 12 year old, Tiahleigh. He was sent to gaol too for a bit, I think. Also the Mother and other son (Josh?) were in a spot of trouble with the law for a while. The father, Rick, murdered her and put on a huge show at her funeral, carrying the coffin and all. A nasty piece of work. Grrrr. He's the grey haired coot on the left in this picture.

There need to be more rigid rules for foster parenting. I think many do it just for the money they receive, however much that is.

Police allege Queensland man Rick Thorburn raped a girl under the age of 12 while working at a childcare centre south of Brisbane, later warning her: "Don't tell anyone".

Richard Neville Thorburn, 57, is also facing charges of attempting to rape another girl and seven indecent assault charges stemming from a period between 2015 and April 2016.

The alleged offences primarily occurred at the Chambers Flat childcare centre operated by his wife Julene Thorburn, police said in a 2016 affidavit.

"Both the victims have disclosed numerous allegations of sexual abuse where the defendant has clearly taken advantage of his unsupervised access to children," Senior Constable Amarjeet Kumar wrote.

"The defendant was in a position of authority being the carer for these children … the children felt helpless and defenceless to protect themselves."

Mr Thorburn has been committed to stand trial and a pre-trial hearing has been set down for April 20 at the Beenleigh District Court.

Don't tell anyone', Thorburn allegedly warns victim

Prosecutors accused the former truck driver of digitally penetrating the first girl, touching her inappropriately, coercing her into performing masturbation on him several times and showing her pornographic videos.

On one occasion the abuse occurred while he was dropping her off at school in a black van which had a large "Miss Julene's Family day care" sticker on the back, police claimed.

Mr Thorburn also tried to force the second girl into performing oral sex on him while in the day care centre's toilet, according to the police affidavit.

After the charges were laid, Ms Thorburn said she shut down her business amid the allegations against her husband and said she was "fully supportive" of his bid for bail in May 2016.

That month, Justice John Bond granted Mr Thorburn bail on the condition he would not contact the girls or their family, that he not apply for a passport and not approach an international departure point.

Mr Thorburn's lawyer Adam Guest declined to comment when contacted by the ABC, but reportedly confirmed to Fairfax Media that his client would contest the charges.
