Cape Town – Out of South Africa's 35 ministers, only 12 graced members' statements in the National Assembly with their presence on Tuesday afternoon.

This is 12 more than Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, opposition MPs were up in arms when not a single minister showed up for members' statements - one of the ways in which the National Assembly holds the executive to account.

All opposition parties called for ministers to be sanctioned.

On Tuesday, ministers Derek Hanekom, Gwede Mantashe, Zweli Mkhize, Lindiwe Zulu, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Rob Davies, Senzeni Zokwana, Edna Molewa, Naledi Pandor, Gugile Nkwinti and Michael Masutha were in attendance, while Malusi Gigaba, who was grilled in the state capture inquiry about his ties to the Guptas, came in as the last statement was read, stopping to shake hands with ANC backbencher Bongani Bongo.

FF Plus MP Corné Mulder said members' statements were an important oversight measure and recalled how every minister was absent on Thursday.

"Why was not a single minister present on the day?" he asked.

The fiery Zulu had some interjections, and Mulder said he was glad "that minister" wanted to answer his question.

She jumped up for a point of order.

"I'm not that minister. I am Lindiwe Daphne Zulu," she said.

"Ginger!" cried some EFF MPs, their nickname for Zulu in reference to her hair colour.

While Davies, Masutha and Zokwana all responded to members' statements, as did deputy ministers Luwellyn Landers and Madala Masuku, only Mapisa-Nqakula responded to Mulder's enquiry about their absence.

"I think I should say, with all due respect, ministers who were not in the House on Thursday, were not [absent] out of disrespect," she said.

She said it was not to undermine the authority or the oversight function of the House, and added that there could be several reasons why ministers did not attend.

On Monday, DA chief whip John Steenhuisen wrote to speaker Baleka Mbete to request that ministers who were not present be sanctioned for contempt of Parliament.

He added that Mbete herself said, in an affidavit, that members' statements were an important way to keep the executive to account.

Before the members' statements were heard, House chairperson Grace Boroto read a ruling on behalf of Mbete, in which she said the matter was part of the "continuing engagement" between her and the leader of government business, Deputy President David Mabuza.

The couple, who had lived in the area for 20 years, were tied up, stabbed, and tortured with a blowtorch for several hours. The masked men stuffed a plastic bag down [the woman's] throat, and attempted to strangle her husband with a bag around his neck.

The couple were bundled into their own truck, still in their pyjamas, and driven to a roadside where they were shot... [The woman],who police said was “unrecognisable” from her injuries, had multiple skull fractures, gunshot wounds and “horrific” burns to her breasts...

“Her head was covered with a towel. Her eyes were swollen shut. She was partially clothed with just scraps of her shirt remaining. Her breasts and upper body was bloody. The plastic bag, shoved down her throat, took some effort to remove because her jaw was clamped down tightly.

“How she managed to breathe with the bag in her throat remains a mystery. One of her rescuers later recalled how Sue was unresponsive except for the constant groaning...”

She was rushed to hospital and placed on life support, but died two days later.

But the fact that doesn't qualify this murder for the Left's outrage?

Last month, British woman Sue Howarth and her husband Robert Lynn were woken at 2am by three men breaking into a window of their remote farm in Dullstroom, a small town in the northeast of South Africa, about 240km from the nearest capital city.

Yet this attack on white farmers in South Africa is not isolated:

Earlier this month, for example, 64-year-old Nicci Simpson was tortured with a power drill during an attack involving three men at her home on a farm in the Vaal area, about two hours drive from Johannesburg...

The most reliable numbers [on attacks] are released by the Transvaal Agricultural Union, which represents commercial farmers, and civil rights group AfriForum.

According to the TAU, last year there were 345 attacks resulting in 70 deaths — the highest death toll since 2008....

In a 2014 report, “The Reality of Farm Tortures in South Africa”, AfriForum wrote that “the horror experienced during farm tortures is almost incomprehensible”...

While sometimes farmers and their families are tortured to obtain information, such as the whereabouts of keys to the safe, human rights groups say the excessive brutality may be intended to send a message to the general farming community — get out of our country.

Victims are often restrained, harmed with weapons such as machetes and pitchforks, burned with boiling water or hot irons, dragged behind vehicles and shot. Female victims are often raped during attacks...

Since 2007, at the direction of the government, South African police have stopped releasing statistics about the race of the victims.

Monitoring group Genocide Watch says the cover-up has been exacerbated by American and European governments, which have “remained silent about the problem, reinforcing the campaign of denial”.

The rise in farm attacks has been blamed on increasingly anti-white hate speech, particularly from the ruling African National Congress...

[President] Zuma earlier this month called for the confiscation of white-owned land without compensation. Zuma urged the “black parties” in the parliament to unite to form the two-thirds majority that would be needed to make the necessary change to the country’s constitution.

Last week, during a debate in parliament about the farm attacks, an ANC MP shouted “Bury them alive!” while MP Pieter Groenewald was speaking about the plight of white farmers.

If a white government incited this kind of horror on black farmers, the Left would join conservatives in denouncing it.

But here we see again that with so many of the Left in these days of identity politics that it's not the principle that counts but the side.

The people of South Africa need our help. The violence and murder is some of the most grotesque in recent memory and as great a tragedy as ever.

“Over the past 18 months, no less than 7 senior black South African politicians promised white South Africans that a civil war is on its way.

Most recently, the Minister of Defense spoke explicitly in a TV interview of a white genocide.

This trend of the Communist Party-aligned African National Congress government – since it assumed power 24 years ago – coincides perfectly with the forecasts of the world’s foremost genocide expert, Dr. Gregory Stanton, formerly of Genocide Watch of Washington, D.C.

They are killing us on the farms, in the suburbs, in our hijacked cars, and in the city centres.

They are killing us like flies.

Now, precisely as Dr. Stanton foretold it would happen, they are using specific rhetoric to agitate, to inspire, and to initiate the final phase of genocide through civil war.

Suidlanders is the world’s largest non-state civil defense organization, constituted under international law per the Geneva Convention to safeguard the welfare of non-combatant civilians of the Boer people.

We are preparing to stand our ground, to die if necessary, rather than give any more way to barbarism in the beautiful country that our forefathers built with blood, sweat, tears, and faith in Almighty God.

Many of our members are clandestine. It is difficult for us to raise money. Many people have lost their jobs for doing far less than supporting us: if they utter anything remotely conservative, the government applies pressure to their employers, be it a bank, real estate agency, or commercial farm.

Our members take real, actual risks in supporting us in the face of a society gone mad with liberalism.

We are asking for your help to urgently raise funds for vital necessities, especially diesel fuel because of its numerous versatile applications in conditions of war. That will be followed and supplemented by medicine, radios, and feminine and paediatric items e.g. food, clothing, bedding, and tents.

We seek to initially raise one million South African rand (approximately $100,000 U.S. dollars). That will only be the beginning.

In the past few days, less than 48 hours before the launch time of this campaign, our parliament passed a motion to initiate a programme expropriating (confiscating, stealing) white-owned property without compensation.

That massive, huge development has gone deliberately unreported by the mainstream media of the world.

It is only with the help of you that we stand a chance of preparing for what has begun.
