CAPE TOWN - Agri Western Cape says it's worrying that attacks on farms are spiralling out of control.

At least four attacks were reported on Western Cape farms in the past month.

In the latest incident earlier this week, a 47-year-old man was shot and killed on a Klapmuts farm near Stellenbosch.

Police say Joubert Conradie was investigating a noise in his house when he was attacked and shot by gunmen.

Agri Western Cape CEO Carl Opperman said: “We are devastated by the loss of life on the farms. [Whether] It is the farmers or the farm workers, it is a loss on a farm that is producing food for the South African consumers. The increase that we’re picking up at the moment, is very worrying and we are very concerned.”

Agri Western Cape and AfriForum have both indicated they will heed a call to wear black on Monday in memory of those who have been killed in attacks on farms.

A farmer and friend of one of the farmers murdered recently has posted an emotional video on social media, urging the farming community to wear black T-shirts and stand in solidarity.

I think it depends on where you are going. The news is reporting that all the trouble is about Black Africans murdering White farmers.

A friend went to Johannesburg for some World Cup (Soccer) a few years ago. He went by himself and hired a car. I was a bit worried but he drove around the countryside and kept the car doors locked. He didn't have any problems, at all.

You will be OK Super Nova I presume you are going for business reasons so should be safe enough (unless you are visiting White Farmers!)

sometimes you don't know what careful is until you are in a situation where you think.. uh oh... I should have been more careful...

when we were in South America we went for a walk around the city we were in,... then when we walked down one block and up another street we came across Public housing complex about 5 stories high...

and it was like up oh... houses across the road were all fenced high wiht barbed wires and there were these Black Guy looking at us all the way as we went passed the complex...

I tried to stay cool and didn't mention anything to the mrs about the situation...

then when we got back the mrs says... "um, I didn't really feel safe waking down that street"

so we learnt very quickly to "stay with the Group"

we got warned about RIO.. stay in groups if you go out etc... but thats a hole other story
