Ditto
When my home phone rings though I know it is usually someone I want to talk to so I intend to keep it
I seem to be on the "List" so I have started letting "afternoon/evening" calls go straight through to the answering machine .... usually get a loud "thump" as they hang up. Friends and Family understand and yell "pick up".

I was originally with Ozemail! Malcolm's baby. Before that various including Microsoft (when I got Win95 in 1995) and various Canberran ISPs.
Still much the same cost with NBN package although I have dumped Movies and Drama ($40/month) from my Foxtel package as we only watch about one or two movies a year on there, and have decided to download Pay per View movies from Foxtel via the internet if I want a movie. (about $5.95 each)
I looked at "bundling" years ago but considering my "phone" usage, it would have cost me more, as it is my Mobile costs me perhaps $30 a YEAR. My landline has never been more than about $32 a month and that is because rellies live in Victoria ... the $3 for 3 hours after 7pm is what I have used. Way back Telstra had a $3 for 30 minutes International calls and I used that a bit.

My Foxtel package costs me $115 a month, includes $10 for the TV in the bedroom. I do NOT have Sport but I have the Kids one (for the grand children). The Channels I usually watch are UKTV, BBCFirst, 13th Street, History, Discovery and Crime.

why would you use a landline when you are already paying for a mobile phone?

I wouldn't worry about the NBN just yet as they have had many bugs with it.... they try and scare you into saying that ADSL is shutting down.. but that time keeps on getting extended out...

so I would recommend staying with ADSL for as long as you can and then picking up a better deal later on as prices fall... rather than being stuck in a 2 year contract..

most basic NBN plans are no faster than ADSL..

not unless you fork out big bucks... then they underdeliver anyways .. as we already know since they have been caught out and have had to pay out damages for lying about speed.. .

it was ready to go at my house since March last year .. I was initially bombarded with emails etc and I ignored them all...

so im still running on ADSL.. its fine.. :beer

We'll stay with what we have till they disconnect it.
telstra bundle, internet, landline with unlimited calls to anywhere in Aust and NZ for $70 p/m.

Well, my NBN Modem was delivered this morning.

My friend around the corner is getting 28 Mpbs or whatever, better by far than the 7 Mpbs we were getting via ADSL2+ from the local Exchange.

I have one of these green boxes across the road ....

However, the "pillar" that will attach me to the FTTN is further down the street and looks like this.

Are you confused? I am. :rofl

Well, I am now the "proud" owner of a FTTN "connection" to the NBN! No sign of a "techie" and they were to come between 7 am and 2 pm today. I checked my computer at about 9 am and the Belkin Modem was flashing and I was (obviously) offline. Tried the phone, no dial tone. Used my mobile to ring my landline and it rings and rings like nobody is home. LOL Now they tell me it will take 10-14 days to "port" across. Terrific. No phone and my Mobile is pay as you go and costs $1 minute to ring anybody. Ah well.

Anyway, I unplugged the old Belkin ADSL and plugged in the new Modem. Let it "configure" for 15+ minutes (as instructed on a yellow sticky thing) and then dialed the 10.1.1.1 thing. No real hassles, just that I am getting past this crap.

Then, one of the first things I did was go to http://www.speedtest.net/ Excitement PLUS! On ADSL I was getting about 6/7 Mbps and now with the super duper you beaut FTTN I am getting .... wait for it .... 10 f****** Mbps. Wow. Un-bloody-believable. Oh well. I'll save on phone calls (once I get the phone back) instead of 30c local, 15 c and instead of whatever National, 15c untimed. :rofl Oh, I don't give my mobile phone to anyone other than family and friends so nobody else will be able to contact me. Crap, again! Ringing the ISP for "support" is a no go. Last time I did that I got some INDIAN and even when she "spoke s.l.o.w.l.y as I asked, I still couldn't understand her. She passed me to another Indian. I used a naughty word and an actual AUSTRALIAN rang me back the next day.

Oh and they charged me $89 for the bloody modem. Only "free" if you signed a 2 year contract which I would NOT do.

So, anybody else excited about getting the NBN? :yahoo

well I tried to warn everyone...

wouldn't listen to ole Mechanic...
Hello Andrew,

The nbn™ broadband access network is available at 2 Duirs St, Warrnambool, VIC, 3280, and you're running out of time to switch.

The nbn™ broadband access network will replace most existing landline phone and internet networks in your area, which will be disconnected from 14 September 2018. This means you could be left without phone, internet and other important services.
pfft... up yours... 8-)

I'll stay ADSL thanks... until you get the bugs sorted out and pricing drops..

I don't use a home phone anymore... me and the mrs carry mobile phones anyways..

so for $40 a month we get unlimited phone calls.. unlimited txt... 12gig of data pooled to 24 gig which I use while away working...

simples..

Well, I checked and I did only sign up for the Basic - "NBN12" which says you will get 12 Mbps, so my 11Mbps is OK. That's $59.95 a month for internet and phone. My old plan was $39.95 for the internet and it used to cost me about $30 for the landline.

My friend who got the 28 Mbps, signed up for a much higher (more expensive) one, not sure which but he and his son both play online games so they want much more "power" than I do.

Redneck apparently had the NBN installed recently too, haven't asked him what sort of plan he has and how the speed is. Red? Do you want to share? :Hi
