Australian airline Qantas has told staff to use 'gender appropriate' terms and avoid saying 'husband and wife' because it may offend the LGBTI community.
Qantas' People and Culture group executive Lesley Grant issued an information booklet detailing how to make employees feel more comfortable at work in line with the airline's Spirit of Inclusion month, The Daily Telegraph reported.
It asks employees to stop using words such as 'honey, darling and love' because they have the capacity to offend.
It also advises staff to use 'partner' instead of husband and wife, and 'parents' instead of mum and dad because it could exclude LGBTI families.
The pack asks Qantas workers to not use gender-inappropriate terms such as mankind or fireman.
The information states: 'Language can make groups of people invisible. For example, the use of the term chairman can reinforce the idea that leaders are always men.'
'Words like love, honey or darling, even when used as terms of endearment, often offend. In the workplace, it is best to avoid these sorts of words.'
Ms Grant told staff she wants the work environment at Qantas to be a place 'everyone feels comfortable to bring their whole selves to work'.
The material was produced by the Diversity Council of Australia, Qantas told The Daily Telegraph.

I am getting so sick of this rubbish. Qantas's head fairy is at it again. Employees cannot use the words husband and wife or love, honey or darling? When is this idiocy going to stop?
If I were a female firefighting volunteer I would not be offended over the word "firemen". How have we bred such a whiny bunch of fairies who take offence over things like 'husband and wife' or terms of endearment?
I know fairy can be an offensive term but that is what these people are. FAIRIES! PRINCESSES!! Worse than any girl I have ever come across.
I have refused to fly Qantas in the past as they are the worst airline that I have encountered. Now I will never fly with them.

More from the Princess Council of Australia ...
MOST of us say “hey guys” to our colleagues several times a day and give it little thought.
But today Australian of the Year David Morrison, who has long fought for gender equality, says the term should no longer be used in the workplace.
The retired Lieutenant General, who made international headlines in 2013 for his rousing speech criticising the military’s sexist culture, has partnered with the Diversity Council of Australia (DCA) to launch a campaign called #WordsAtWork.
“Research has told us for years how language cuts people out or cuts them down, and yet it still happens,” he says in a DCA promotional video. “When it comes to words at work, we’ve all got to walk the talk.”
The DCA says “guys” is a gendered word that can make women feel left out.
“We want to get people thinking about the language they use in the workplace and whether it’s inclusive or excludes people,”Diversity Council of Australia’s CEO Lisa Annese told news.com.au.
“We’re not telling people what to say, we’re encouraging people to think about the words they use at work so everyone feels respected, valued and included. We know from research that when more inclusive language is used at work, people are greater engaged and more proactive.”
Ms Annese suggests using phrases like “Hi everyone” or “Hi team”.

Seriously, what female here would be offended and feel LEFT OUT if someone came in and said "Hey guys"?

What a crock of PC nonsense. From the Oxford Dictionary: 1.1 (guys) People of either sex: 'You guys want some coffee?' Nothing more to say.

Sorry but stuff the LGBTI community. I do NOT answer to the title "Ms", I am MRS, even though I have been divorced for a very long time! Stuff the lot of them.

I certainly have never been offended by people saying "Hey guys" nor do I think it is gender specific or offensive as proved above^^^.
I DO, however, object to not being able to be called 'husband' or 'wife' or to be able to use normal terms of endearment like, 'love', 'honey' or 'darling' in case it hurts some little princesses feelings. What do they call each other? Princess?
I also have never had a problem with LBGT (alphabet ad infinitum) until this insanity started taking shape. Now I do!!
Minorities need to harden up and stop taking offence at the slightest ridiculous and very NORMAL and traditional things and definitely stop trying to control the majority.
This insanity, together with men trying to muscle their way into womens' sport, will eventually bring it all undone and hopefully turn the tide back to what should be considered normal.
This is not normal!! Nor should it be tolerated!!

The plural of you is YOU.
Definitely NOT youse that I see some people say/write, it makes me cringe when I hear "youse". Y'all is grammatically incorrect too. It is a Southern colloquialism and is (apparently) correct when spoken but not when written!

Y'all is just an abbreviation of 'you all'.
Youse is another kettle of fish and something I have only ever heard Aussies say.

I think you will both find the quote was 100% correct...
There was no mention of a "youse" and "y'all" and guys as a non gender collective term is also correct.
