NBN

Post by Neferti » Tue Feb 27, 2018 4:59 pm

I had my ISP ring me today to explain the "procedure" . I had received an email that I was NBN "ready" so I rang and got some bloody Indian ... I told them to get an Aussie to call me back!

Anybody else gone through this "procedure"? Any problems? Apparently all I need is a new Modem and I can't have my cordless phone in the Kitchen, it has to be next to the Modem or something. I objected to signing up for a 2-year contract since I have been with the same ISP for 14 years and that was OK. Expecting to hear back tomorrow for an "appointment" for the technician to arrive in the next week or so.

Excitement plus!

If you get a cordless phone with extra handsets you can put them wherever you want.

I have one of those ... the guy on the phone wouldn't know, the techie who comes might. Now I wonder also about Foxtel ... that is "connected" to the phone line ... it is satellite but ...... this is Canberra and ALL my "services" (phone, electricity, gas, etc) are underground.

At least I do NOT need to sign up for a 24 month "contract" since I have been with the same ISP for 14 years. They will also give me a 50% "discount" on call out fee or whatever. Free Modem and blah blah blah. Actually, NBN sounds like it is less expensive than Telstra ... 15c phone calls (local and national) and unlimited. My family is in Melbourne and country Victoria and usually I have to wait until 7pm to call to get the $3 for 3 hour thing ... 15 cents untimed National sounds good to me!

I get free local, national and mobile calls and 100 free overseas minutes per month

I was with the same ISP for over 15 years too but I changed last year.

im using Naked ADSL..

no phone..

why would you use a landline when you are already paying for a mobile phone?

I wouldn't worry about the NBN just yet as they have had many bugs with it.... they try and scare you into saying that ADSL is shutting down.. but that time keeps on getting extended out...

so I would recommend staying with ADSL for as long as you can and then picking up a better deal later on as prices fall... rather than being stuck in a 2 year contract..

most basic NBN plans are no faster than ADSL..

not unless you fork out big bucks... then they underdeliver anyways .. as we already know since they have been caught out and have had to pay out damages for lying about speed.. .

it was ready to go at my house since March last year .. I was initially bombarded with emails etc and I ignored them all...

so im still running on ADSL.. its fine.. :beer

I had mine connected last friday Nef, all went well, I did the self install without incident.

I am with Telstra and opted for the package that included my existing Foxtel, I am quite impressed with the improved download speed which has gone from 4Mb/s to 27Mb/s

Yes agree the phone connection is a bit of a pain luckily I had several stations for my cordless so put the master station near the modem.

I went for the $129 one on here which fitted in better with my satellite Foxtel which is also with Telstra

Anyway so far so good!

I own my mobile phone and just put $20 via Vodafone online in it from time to time. It's a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I carry it around but don't use it much, except to send a text here and there. I only give out my Mobile phone number to friends, don't want to get on any "list" so that I get annoying calls from Indians. My current landline is with Telstra and that costs me about $28 a month! I tend to keep in touch with people via the computer and the phone is for people to contact me, or to make appointments with the doctor or whatever. :D

I rang Foxtel and they no longer use the telephone lines, so the lines attached to the Foxtel box are superfluous. While on the phone to Foxtel I ordered a (free) new remote as the IQ2 one has had it. I have been using the IQ1 remote. Foxtel tried to sell me the new IQ3 box but I rejected the sales pitch. :rofl

My ISP (different company) costs me $39.95 a month (for 500GB), and the Plan I have ordered for the NBN is $59.95, so will be about $10 cheaper a month than what I currently have. I was hard-nosed (as my friend called me) and made a NO CONTRACT deal and got a 50% discount on the "activation fee" that you have to pay if you don't have a contract. I have a friend nearby and he has just ordered the NBN too and we are going to "compare" speeds ... eventually. Will let you know.

I pay Foxtel direct via credit card. Won't use Telstra unless I really have to. ;)

I paid Telstra $34/month for years just to keep my landline. Then it went up to $37/month, before you even make any calls, which is why I ran with VOIP which includes free calls.

When I am out my mobile is always in my handbag and I can never hear it when it rings. Usually it is from numbers I don't even recognise so, even if I did hear it, I would ignore it.

When my home phone rings though I know it is usually someone I want to talk to so I intend to keep it

I was with Iinet for years who were very good, but eventually moved everything to Telstra (combining Foxtel (satellite) , internet and phone) in one inclusive plan which saved considerable amount at the time.

Still much the same cost with NBN package although I have dumped Movies and Drama ($40/month) from my Foxtel package as we only watch about one or two movies a year on there, and have decided to download Pay per View movies from Foxtel via the internet if I want a movie. (about $5.95 each)

5G starts up soon, faster than the NBN and mobile....
