Jury duty
Feeling pissed off today. I’ve been called for jury duty and need to attend tomorrow.
Now I didn’t want to do it in the first place, but I just checked the payements and if I attend tomorrow and am only there for half a day and don’t get chosen I receive nothing at all for the day.
If I do get chosen I only get payed $106 bucks a a day for the first ten days of the trial.
Jesus, many people would be under financial stress just for doing their “duty”, but what pissed me off even more was that it says if you’re a public servant you are paid your normal salary by the dept you work for.
Surely everyone should be entitled to their usual salary, or at the very least the minimum wage, which I would think was a lot more than $106 dollars a day.

Re: Jury duty
Are public servants paid their normal salary or are they just paid by their particular departments rather than receiving the jury payment?

Mmmm, possible I misread it.Black Orchid wrote:Are public servants paid their normal salary or are they just paid by their particular departments rather than receiving the jury payment?
Here is a copy of the sentence.
But does this mean they are paid their usual wage or the same fee as all other jury members? All public servants are paid by their agencies whilst they are completing jury service and are not entitled to a jury payment.

Re: Jury duty
I was called up for Jury duty back in the late 1990s, didn't get called to be a juror, so that was that, just wasted the best part of the morning.skippy wrote:Mmmm, possible I misread it.Black Orchid wrote:Are public servants paid their normal salary or are they just paid by their particular departments rather than receiving the jury payment?

You are in New South Wales aren't you? Here is a link to what YOUR employer should know!
http://www.courts.justice.nsw.gov.au/Pa ... oyers.aspx
In Canberra the Public Servants get paid normally, Private Company employers have to make up the balance of the employee's pay (after the jury duty fee). It looks like you shouldn't be out of pocket under the Fair Work Act 2009, either. Read the above link and make sure your employer knows ...

Re: Jury duty
Thanks for that Nef, I never saw that page. By the looks of that my Employer needs to pay my regular pay, I would think.
Maybe it’s not as bad as I thought.
From my reading I think I get paid my normal pay as well as the jury duty allowance? Or do others think it means you get your allowance for jury duty and your employer makes up the difference for what you would usually earn?
All clear as mud hey?

I remember a while back I was getting called every second year for 6 years ... never got on the Jury though..

so I ran them up and gave them a piece of my mind... well... n0t really.. I didn't want to upset them..
but anyways.. I spoke to this lass and she checked back and coudnt understand why I got called upon so much..
so she said.. ok.. I can fix this.. I'll just take your name out of there...
done deal... haven't been called since...
