Luke Foley so patronising...
https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/ ... 188ccd1ee5
THE man who wants to become premier has promised to give the Aboriginal flag equal status with the Australian national flag by flying it side-by-side year round on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
It comes as The Daily Telegraph can today also reveal Opposition Leader Luke Foley is planning to flick the switch to vaudeville to win over voters.
The normally tame Mr Foley is being mentoree by acid-tongued former Labor prime minister Paul Keating, whose time in power was marked by the establishment of native title.
His shadow Cabinet is also going to “minister school” — a plan were they will be coached by everyone from ex-party leaders to departmental bosses and private sector tycoons to help them prepare to run the state.
The Aboriginal flag currently flies on the bridge alongside the Australian and the NSW flags for 15 days a year — on Australia Day and during NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.

Unless they had a flag when the settlers arrived, then this is a modern concept.
So did they have a flag or not?
But what about all the other people now from other countries? Shouldn't their flags be given equal opportunity?
However if it's some sort of victory for some Australian Aboriginals over the white settlers, they needn't worry.
We now have gay marriage........

Way past time the aboriginal flag was put in the bin..the structures and buildings it is flown from have nothing to do with Aboriginal heritage, it would make more sense to fly the flags of the countries of the migrant workers who built them.but any flag should never have the same presence as the Australian flag, it must always be on top.

If Foley wants to be Premier, he needs to demonstrate two things:
1. What has he learned from the Liberals, who took NSW from the worst performing mainland economy (under the last Labor Government) to the best by a long margin, and
2. What Labor policies and behaviours that decimated the NSW economy last time are still in existence, and how he plans to eliminate these.

I think it is cute that a politician, who is growing a reputation for petty indulgences, is being mentored by a former PM, who lost office for ignoring the economy and families for petty indulgences. Surprisingly they are trying to catch the public’s eye by promoting petty indulgences.

Luke Foley should change his name to bandwagon - every symbolic cause that comes up he throws out what he actually believes in and jumps on the wagon.
I'll take triers and failures and dills and even the odd good one, but a pure popularist politician with no substance is not something we need in NSW.

Here's an idea for you Foley, why not ditch the Australian national flag altogether and fly the Aboriginal flag and rainbow flag side by side to garner the entire minority vote!

The Australian flag is sufficient with the Aboriginal flag being hoisted at various times, which it is now. After all, we are all Australians aren't we and should work towards that instead of continual divisiveness and separation?
Gladys is a huge loss especially to Sydney and now Foley is going to challenge her at next year's election on the platform of indigenous recognition and negotiating a treaty recognising traditional Indigenous ownership of NSW.
Sydney is awash with foreign property ownership problems which has caused ridiculous escalating property prices, public transport strikes, infrastructure problems, blackouts in the heatwave and nonsense stadiums and Foley ignores all this in favour of a flag?
I guess we will be stuck with Gladys for some time to come.

I know you meant the real one and we aren't supposed to be bothered if people do that. If someone burns the Aussie flag on Australia Day we have to suck it up or be bombarded with names and abuse for being outraged.
Imagine if someone burned the Aboriginal flag during NAIDOC week though?

told you so told you so...
All aboard the virtue signalling train!
That’s right. Another day, another candidate vying for votes through the increasingly common campaign tactic of conspicuous spouting of a moral stance aimed at harvesting votes.
New South Wales Labor Opposition leader Luke Foley has announced that a key pledge if he wins the next election will be to fly an Aboriginal flag on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This is intended to signal how much he cares for indigenous Australians.
Frankly, Mr Foley could entirely wrap the bridge in the Aboriginal flag for the rest of its years standing over the water, and it still would not reduce one iota of the problems suffered by disadvantaged indigenous people.
I am not sure what is more embarrassing, assuming Australians are stupid and pushing for a shallow act of symbolism to win votes or actually voting for a candidate who does not address the real issues facing Aboriginal people — while pretending to care.
Perhaps Mr Foley just wants to ape the example of his Greens counterparts, in trying to win easy votes with a recipe of virtue signalling and identity politics — a tactic increasingly used among the left.
We saw this in the Victorian seat of Northcote when the Greens’ Richard di Natale ran the line ‘let’s make history by voting in our first ever indigenous member of Victorian Parliament’.
I’m all for having indigenous politicians — elected on merit.
But the Greens’ campaign meant they did not have to actually deliver policies that better the lives of Aboriginal Australians, let alone all Australians.
Why is it that the left Labor and Greens want to keep dumbing down debate and making a mockery of our democracy by lying to the Australian people?
Why is it not blatantly obvious to these members and candidates — like it is blatantly obvious to anyone with half a brain — that flying flags and changing dates is not addressing the real issues, but ignoring them.
Aboriginal women are 35 times more likely to be hospitalised by family violence.
Aboriginal children are being neglected, assaulted and sexually abused at alarming rates.
As well as having Australia’s highest rates of family violence, Aboriginal people are among the highest incarcerated people on the face of the earth.
Daily Telegraph front page
We have to address these issues. Seeing as 66% of crimes committed by Aboriginal men are crimes of violence against people in their own communities, would it not be beneficial for the families, the children and the need to lower rates of incarceration if we actually focused on this issue as a national priority — if not a national emergency?
The very reason why Aboriginal people are incarcerated at such high rates is spelled out by academic and Director of the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics, Don Weatherburn, in his book Arresting Incarceration.
He points to the lack of education that stems from unstable and violent home lives for Aboriginal children.
LISTEN TO JACINTA PRICE ON MIRANDA LIVE
me thinks the real reason they come up with these dumbarse ideas is because T
. has anyone ever heard one pollie say... aboriginals need to get off their backsides stop whingeing and actually do something for themselves...
if they are filling the jails.....tell them to stop breaking the laws..... its not rocket science....
yeah I wont hold my breath whilst waiting for someone with a back bone to tell it how it is..
told you so told you so...
