Solar Panel Calls - Scam or not

Post by Redneck » Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:45 am

Copied this from Reddit ......  I  have been getting a few as well, I usually just hang up assuming it is just a scam

Anyone else know anything about them?

https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comm ... nels_scam/

I've been recieving calls from Indian people about a solar panel rebate, except they are suspiciously similar to the calls from the people who say they're from Microsoft and want access to my PC. They even have that same electronic tone chime when the call connects. Now somehow they've got my mobile number and they're calling me during the day on my mobile too.

Does anyone know anything about these people? Is anyone else recieving these calls? Is it a scam? I usually mess with the fake Microsoft scammers but I don't want to give these callers a hard time if they happen to be legit.

Actually could even be this

https://acma.gov.au/theACMA/engage-blog ... -practices

The ACMA is concerned about the telemarketing practices being used by solar businesses.

In the last 12 months, we’ve received thousands of complaints from Australians on the Do Not Call Register about calls from solar businesses and call centres offering solar panels and related services and products.

In fact, 20 per cent of all complaints now made to the Do Not Call Register are about solar telemarketing. This indicates a high level of non-compliance by businesses using telemarketing—whether directly or indirectly—to sell their solar products and services.

Its not the nationality, phone system or otherwise that tells you this is a scam.
Even if it was a government initiated conference call between them, you and your power company, the mere mention of the word solar will automatically guarantee it is without doubt a massive scam. :thumb

Although solar is a perfect example of a daisy chain of stupidity.

Stupid idea----->Stupid govt---> Stupid product----> stupid people <------ Your wallet
Environmental outcome = unfathomable levels of negative.

History will not regard any one of the groups above in a favourable light, which is far too mild.
Everyone of them should be Nuremburg'd (don't worry about your wallet. It suffered death by lefty hoovering way before the trials could begin)

I have a landline and although on the Do NOT Call me list, I still get the "sub-continent" peoples, calling themselves "Andrew" or "John" or "Sarah" calling with this type of rubbish. So far no calls about solar panels.

A good reason not to give your MOB to all and sundry ... that too will end up on a list.
