From a disc

Post by Outlaw Yogi » Sun May 21, 2017 3:39 pm

Yeah so there's a movies thread, which I assume is about what's on in cinemas, and thread about what's on TV, which I don't have ... well I have VHF/UHF telly but no digital reception, so no TV.

But I do have this laptop which I watch DVDs on ... so this threads about shows from DVDs.

Last week I watched 'Terminator Genisys' - not a bad reflection on today's common reliance on the net and our unwitting acceptance of bot surveillance. ...' Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows 2' - Yeah OK, so I'm a big kid ... and ... um ... I forget.

Last night I watched 'The New world' - about Brits trying to establish a colony in Virginia (America) and an Amerindian princess' adoption of western lifestyle ... it was OK.

Got 3 more to watch ... let you know if they're any good.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

and .. um .. I forget, was Wolf Creek - boring, then sick. Much preferred Wolf Creek 2. Was funny, except the bit where he ground the Pommy's fingers off with an angle grinder. That was a bit fucked up.

Watched 'Harry Potter, Deathly Hallows 1 - OK for a kids show, don't know why it's got an M rating.

Watched 'Free State of Jones' - excellent movie about true story in American civil war.
Got it from the 3 DVDs for $30 box at Sanity. Highly recommend everyone see it.
Yeah OK I have a bit of an affinity for dem dang southern hillbillies, but that's not why.
Yes I like the insurrection theme - as a kid my favourite book was "50 mutinies, rebellions and revolutions".
One thing I found informative was about how registered Democrats started the KKK and rigged elections.

Watched "Exodus, Gods and Kings" - yeah it's the 1st Jew sob story, but reasonably done.
I didn't know Moses went in to exile for 9 years and had a family while in exile.
I liked this insurrection version better than the old poor Jew pacifist victim version.
I knew about the plagues, but I didn't know the crocodiles ate the fishermen ... that was entertaining.

Watched several movies since last post. Most are forgettable.
But 1 I really liked ($6 at Kmart) was 'District 9'
It's a South African alien movie.
I'm not sure if it's meant to be portrayed as serious - as in action movie - but I found it quite funny.
