Australians will face fines of up to $12,600 for vilifying, intimidating or threatening to harm another person under tough new ground rules for the postal survey on gay marriage that will go before Parliament this week.

Both sides of the campaign will receive protections under the new safeguards, which would make it an offence to vilify, intimidate or threaten to harm another person based on their gender identity, sexual orientation, intersex status or religious views.

Acting Special Minister for State Mathias Cormann told a party room meeting of Coalition MPs today the laws would include the standard provisions for elections, plus the additional measures.

The protections will cover the campaign period only.

sadly Australia has always had an undercurrent of violence..

even talking about abortion.[which is violent in itself] brings out the worst in people..

after John Howard brought in the gun laws.. we ended up with a Shooters Party..

someone tried to stop Greyhound animal cruelty.. but the bullying few decided it would do their own policing...

we are a weird mob thats for sure..

the minority [groups]is certainly ruling the waves..

I think frustration is making normal people act out of character..

I think you'll be ok Bobby.

You'll still be allowed to eat da poo poo in the privacy of your own home, you just won't be able to do it in public until the gaynalinguists get their way.

Then the ALP, Greens and L-ALP will make it a positive discrimination employment opportunity open to public sector jobs where having shit on your nose and tongue is grounds for a promotion.
