http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/parent ... 74106cfc1fPARENTS were horrified after a primary school presented a play featuring students dressed as nuns to abuse “Aboriginal” children.
The Forestville Public School in the northern beaches performed the play “Australia You’re Standing In It” last week.
The play focused on the stolen generation and the Manly Daily reports the school said in the newsletter it was pleased to teach students about Australia’s discovery by Captain Cook and the “truth” about the treatment of the stolen generation.
Some of the students dressed up as nuns and pretended to mentally and physically abuse children who were playing the part of the stolen generation.
Parents slammed the play, including former Socceroos star Robbie Slater.
“It’s a great school but this was serious misjudgment; little children should not be exposed to that,” he said.
“At certain stages I walked out, I didn’t want to watch to be honest.
“It’s inappropriate to push a political agenda on children.”
Some children in the play were also holding signs that said “sorry”.
“They are very impressionable young children,” Mr Slater told the Manly Daily.
“It was bloody disgraceful. I don’t think using five, six or seven-year-old kids is appropriate to push your own political agenda.”
Hadley read a statement from the Education department that said it was looking into the matter and Mr Stokes said he was aware of the incident and apologised to anybody offended.
Radio shock jock Ray Hadley slammed the NSW government for not doing anything about it and criticised premier Gladys Berejiklian and Education Minister Rob Stokes.
“Two young girls in year 6 dressed as nuns vilifying and berating the students who were pretending to be the stolen generation,” he said on 2GB.
“Now if Rob Stokes, or Gladys Berejeklian for that matter ... Now Premier, I’m putting you on notice here Premier. You need to show a bit of backbone here now, if we had a socialist government I’d have to cop it, but we’ve got a conservative liberal national party government in NSW. If you think Premier this is a fair go and you’re not going to do something about it, then you’re as weak as water and so is your minister Rob Stokes.
“I’m challenging you both, you’re as weak as water unless you do something about it. I’ve had a gutful. I’ve sat here for year after year after year and put up with this nonsense.”
Hadley said the school should not use five or six-year-olds to push a political agenda.
“Don’t use little kids carrying placards to do it and don’t put parents in the situation of having to clap for their own children even though they’re appalled by what’s happening,” he said.
And it just keeps getting worse and worse. Our education system is disgraceful and needs to be overhauled and set straight. Political agendas have no place in our schools as is evident from the huge number of illiterate and backward young people we are turning out.
Anyone who watches The Block may understand after watching the 'geography' segment. Embarrassing!
