No surprise really. It's not as if the left have ever been able to take a principled stand.
A BATTLE over the legacy of Australia’s most famous revolt — the Eureka Stockade — has broken out.
Unions have long maintained that the 1854 insurrection on the Ballarat gold fields sparked the birth of the labour movement.
But free market think tank the Institute of Public Affairs has dismissed that claim, saying it was really a fight against high taxation and had a different outcome.
In a new video, the IPA’s Dr Bella d’Abrera equated the excessive mining licence fee demanded by the colonial government with a tax hike.
Dr d’Abrera said that the miners were influenced by the British Chartist movement and its demands including the right to vote and equal representation in parliament for all men.
“The battle that won Australians the right to vote was a revolt against higher taxes,” she said.
“If we want to understand Australia’s success as a modern nation, as one of the world’s oldest continuous democracies, we must look back to the origins of our institutions.”

Yeah, those minesite workers all love to vote against their best interests.
They're so sick of earning 150K-200K a year for half a year that they check out if it's the greens or the ALP that's threatening their site this week to see who gets second preference
Back then, they were all independant contractors working for themselves and guess what brought it to a head?
A govt grab for $$$ in the form of a mining tax.
The CFMFU comeback was just full retard level "hurr durr Trump" you could have sworn it was gwggy.

Claims to ownership by Left or right aside, my understanding of Eureka Stockade is that it was an uprising against the high costs/fees for a Miner's Right (Licence), and the participants held anti-Chinese sentiments (companies were recruiting Chinese for low pay which single/sole operators couldn't compete with) ... From memory the leader ...? Lalor lost an arm in the battle, and later became an MP in OZ's 1st parliament.
Some (in the past) have claimed the Eureka Stockade was OZ's 1st insurrection. Not true, the Rum rebellion was.
Some, like the BLF (now part of CFMEU) appropriated the Eureka flag as their own, as did anti-Asian neo-Nazis in the 80s.
Really for unionists to claim affinity with the Eureka rebels is fallacy, because gold rush miners worked for a living, and unionists get jobs running unions so they don't have to work ... and can extort workers and businesses for a living.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

I'm not worried ... wasn't even addressing your diatribe with IQ, or his with you ... I was addressing unionists claiming ownership of Ozzy history to which they have no connection in reality or spirit.
The gold rush prospectors/miners were in todays terms contractors, as in self employed. And the unionists are doing all they can to put the self employed out of business.
Not to worry though. Soon robots will eliminate unions authority and justification to exist.
And their superannuation ponzi schemes will collapse without new member contributions.
