not quite. The largest number of immigrants are still from the UK, followed by NZ and then China. I think you're safe.AiA in Atlanta wrote: Australia is becoming more Asian, less European

Re: Bowing to the Chinese
In case you didn't know (and without counting immigrants from other Asian countries) India IS a part of Asia and migrants from just China and India total 15.7%.While the number one place of origin for foreign-born migrants is still England, at 15%, migrants from China (8.3%) and India (7.4%) have been arriving in greater numbers in recent years.
In total, migrants born in China, India, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia now outnumber those born in Europe and New Zealand.
Do the math.

I used to live and work in Sydney as most people know. It's been a very long time since I had the opportunity to visit Martin Place or wander around the shops in the City but, the last time I did that would have been about 1990 and even then I was shocked about how many Asians (Orientals not Indians) there were, small people with black hair everywhere! I also noticed people begging near Wynyard! No doubt it is a lot worse now, almost 30 years later!

Why would Sydney retirees move to Queensland? Sydney has wonderful weather. It is the Melbournites who retire to the Gold Coast.J o h n S m i t h wrote:late 90's and the 00's saw movement of a lot off Asians from SE Queensland to Sydney, whilst anglo's (mostly retirees) moved from Sydney to SE Qld.Neferti~ wrote: I used to live and work in Sydney as most people know.
