Australian sovereignty under threat from influence of China's Communist Party.
The defence and intelligence community believes that attempts by the Chinese Communist Party to exert its influence in Australia pose a direct threat to our nation's liberties and its sovereignty.
That fear has been confirmed by a five-month-long Four Corners-Fairfax investigation which shows Beijing is active across a vast array of fronts — from directing Chinese student associations, threatening Australian-based Chinese dissidents, seeking to influence academic inquiry, co-opting community groups and controlling most Chinese-language media.
And Monday night's Four Corners program will track the millions in opaque Chinese-linked donations to show how it buys access and influence in Australian politics.
China's Communist Party is monitoring the activities of university academics and students engaged in anti-communist activism in Australia. Just how pervasive is its power in Australia, and who else is it targeting?
The depth of the concern at the highest levels of the defence and intelligence establishment can be measured in recent public statements by the departing Defence secretary and the director-general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
Australia's domestic spy chief Duncan Lewis warned Parliament that espionage and foreign interference in Australia were occurring on "an unprecedented scale".
"This has the potential to cause serious harm to the nation's sovereignty, the integrity of our political system, our national security capabilities, our economy and other interests," Mr Lewis said.
The outgoing Defence Department secretary, Dennis Richardson, named China as being "very active" in espionage and pointed to an equally troubling campaign of monitoring and coercion here.

When will our politicians wake up?

ASIO raids in Canberra have allegedly uncovered sensitive government files in the home of a high-profile Chinese socialite and her Australian husband, a former high-ranking intelligence official.
A Fairfax Media and Four Corners investigation reports the raid targeted Sheri Yan and her husband, former Australian diplomat Roger Uren, over allegations she was involved in operations for the Chinese Communist Party.
The raid occurred in October 2015 as Ms Yan was simultaneously arrested by the FBI in New York for bribing a senior United Nations official.
She was jailed last year after pleading guilty to the bribery charges.
It’s reported the documents allegedly found in her home detailed the activities of Chinese intelligence services.
Mr Uren is suspected of removing them from his former workplace, the Office of National Assessments, before he left the agency in August 2001.
The agency briefs the Prime Minister on intelligence matters.
Mr Uren was the Assistant Secretary responsible for the Asia section of the office

At least the yanks did something and locked her up. What about Uren?

As well he should be. Neither party should be accepting 'political donations' from foreign countries, especially communist countries.

I was in Kyoto, Japan last week - my second visit to that city. The first time I went the tourists were 99% Japanese with a smattering of white people. Now, I'd guess almost half were Chinese with other Asian nationalities mixed in. Hawaii is the same way.

its money AiA its all about money Japan needs it so do we....we cant afford not to deal with the Chinese they have got to be the richest country in the world right now..
god knows how many countries they have in the palm of their hands....
dont forget the CHinese people are not responsible for their govt actions....anymore than the Nth Koreans are..
we have to tread very very carefully... telling these people to take their money and shove it....is exactly what they will do...
and give it to other countries.....have you guys thought..
its not what THEY do.. its what our people do that matters....
what is the difference between a bribe and a gift???..... nothing really....unless someone lets it be!!!..

They should be told to take their money and shove it. We really don't need it. The Sydney housing market may even reduce to within the reach of young couples.
Leasing Port Darwin for 99 years to the Chinese would have to be the most stupid move of the century. Now we are selling them the GPO in a hush hush deal.
Both sides of our government should be ashamed and REPLACED with a party that thinks about Aussies first instead of refugees and lining their pockets.
Australia and Australians need to come FIRST. Trump had it right!

Pauline Hanson has the right idea. She unfortunately just doesn't have the capacity to sell it efficiently.
