Convicted paedophiles could be blocked from travelling abroad in a bid to prevent them sexually abusing children in developing nations.

The Federal Government will soon introduce legislation making it illegal for thousands of child sex offenders to leave Australia without permission.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said the measure was a "world first".

WHEN are we, The Public, going to get a site we can "search" for whether there are convicted paedophiles living nearby?

Convicted paedophiles should be NAMED AND ASHAMED and everybody should know whether there is one of these disgusting creatures living nearby.

I agree. Everyone has a right to know who they live next door to. They DO need to be named and shamed.

Maybe it would be more effective to ban them from entering countries where children are easily exploited. I mean, if paedophiles are denied passports then why not all rapists?

Yes I agree with Bishop on this.
I agree communities deserve to know if these people live amongst them.
I don't believe in the done your crime done your time when it comes to paedophiles, once a paedophile always a paedophile.

Exactly. IF a person (male or female) has sexual desires for innocent children, then there is no way that they can be "rehabilitated".

A Gaol/Jail is NOT a Rehabilitation Centre or a Correction Facility.

As has been said in another thread ...... The LAW needs a dramatic re-think... this Appeals System for Murderers who have "found God" is ridiculous. Certainly if they have murdered more than one person. For example, a person who has lashed out and stabbed their partner in an argument, is most unlikely to go around stabbing people. They might be rehabilitated.

STILL ... IF a 25 year sentence for Murder is OK. Would mean that the family felt ... what is that word the Yanks say? Closure?

Some families wait 40 YEARS before they find out what happened to their loved ones.

The recovery/rehabilitation rate is so low it is almost zero. Something like 90% of them reoffend... or get catch. God knows what the other 10% get away with that is not discovered.

Unlike other crimes, society needs to know about them and I don't give a stuff about their human rights. That should be branded on their forehead. Like Bumwars.
