Budget 2017
So what are your thoughts? Personally, in the main all I see is more of my money moving out of my pocket into other things rather than the crucial reform i think our system needed. The tax on the banks will just be passed back to me in increased costs, the increased medicare levy will pay for the NDIS. New roads, infrastructure, defence, educations etc will just be funded by borrowing more money, reducing services or reverse robin hood arrangements. There was no real reform here, no attempt to limit outgoings or freeze things like pensions or foreign aid. I doubt if Labor could do any better though so I guess it is just more belt tightening

Re: Budget 2017
in many ways it's a typical liberal budget, but good to see them adopting more and more of labors policies
tax rises are bad when labor does them, good when libs do it
. Not sure yet but reasonably confident he'll overtake Howard as the highest taxing govt.
Attacking the unemployed .... just more preaching to the converted
Changes to help first home buyers .... pretty sure it'll just push up prices further
Banks - good move, as long as they don't expect a tax hike to replace a royal commission
Changes to super payments so retirees can downsize their homes .... it won't work unless eligible pensioners are allowed to retain their pensions.
I guess that compared to the libs recent budgets, this one was actually not to bad. Although his prediction of surplus in 4 years is more wishful thinking. They've predicted the same thing for the last 6 budgets.

I haven't seen a lot of the detail yet and I may change my opinion on some of the measures as more details are released.

Against Labor's wishes foreign aid will be reduced but not for another 2-3 years and, even then, only for a short time.

we cant just shut down F.A.. they will start flooding every country if that happens...we should have more control over how our F.A. is spent in these countries....no more cash in other words.. how about giving them credit cards..
