The doomsayers were saying "If the Greenland ice sheet melts the oceans will rise 7 metres" ... "If Antarctic ice sheets melt the oceans will rise 60 metres" ect ect ect.

I thought, seeing as ocean currents connect virtually every continent ultimately, if one melts, the other will too. But more importantly I noticed these so called experts were making these predicted events in isolation to each other.

So I did a calculation of all the frozen water above sea level on this planet {including glaciers} (in 2007) and came up with a figure of a potential sea lever rise of 97 metres.
I mentioned it at another site and someone countered with "That's impossible" ... To which I replied "Why's that? .. the oceans have been hundreds of metres higher in the distant past than they are today .. and in the last ice age the oceans were up to 120 metres lower than they are now".

Theorising that even in a worst case scenario it is unlikely all the potential melt water would do so, I posited a potential 80 metre sea rise to be conservative. Then I got out my topographical maps top see how far sea water would intrude up rivers and creeks if the oceans rose 80 metres. In my area the coast would move about 50km inland.

Anyway it seems Tim Flannery read what I wrote, because a few months later he was on Chanel 7's Sunrise program predicting a sea level rise of 80 metres.
