Re: Chat
In my younger years, when I lived in various places in the eastern US - Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Nebraska - we had normal seasons - there were spring, summer, autumn and winter - with temps and climate appropriate to the seasons ...
We had brightly colored autumn leaves in the fall, and real snow in the winter ...
Here in California, the temp right this minute around the Bay Area is at 17C ... that is 63F ... quite balmy and warm ... we hardly notice that winter is on the way ...
During January to March the average temps are around 7C to 9C ... something like 45F to 50F ... and it rains ...

The last couple of years that I was in the Public Service there was a lovely big poster in the office, fall in Vermont (or somewhere in New England anyway) with lots of trees in it all showing glorious fall colors! Might see if I can find that to stick up on the bare brick walls here in the back room of the shop. Would have been fantastic to go for a horseride through those woods!

Makes you sick? Poor woman!
Of course, in my youth, (over)indulgence made me sick too, ahem! Now of course I am old and boring and don't drink as much as I used to, dammit!
You got a nice brewery in your state, Sierra Nevada. Would love to get hold of a few of their Big Foot!
They (only sort of, IMHO) recreated a dawn-of-civilisation beer made from bappir (sprouted seed) loaves with dates providing extra flavor and fermentables.

I went to college in a town near Knoxville, Tennessee, and the Great Smoky Mts were spectacular to behold!
Some of us students and teachers did go on excursions into the mountains to Cades Cove and Gatlinburg, and went horseback riding on Blockhouse Road and Chilhowee View Road ...
Ahhh, those were the good old days ...

I did horseriding in Belair National Park. Took the train up and my bike down
Just an hour per week, good fun. Later did a bit more with some friends.
We weren't supposed to go on the oval but one time the temptation to gallup all out got too much and had a nice little gallop before I got told off. Wonderful
Last year walked up to the National Park with my dog. Every single stretch of the road pretty much was uphill, had to stop and rest a few times. Only do that in winter, too many joe blakes about and active in summer!

A man was walking down the street when he was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless man who asked him for a couple of dollars for dinner. The man took out his wallet, extracted two dollars and asked, "If I give you this money, will you buy some beer with it instead?"
"No, I stopped drinking years ago," the homeless man said.
"Will you use it to gamble instead of buying food?" the man asked.
"No, I don't gamble," the homeless man said. "I need everything I can get just to stay alive."
"Will you spend the money on green fees at a golf course instead of food?" the man asked.
"Are you NUTS?" replied the homeless man. "I haven't played golf in 20 years!"
"Well," said the man, "I'm not going to give you two dollars. Instead, I'm going to take you home for a terrific dinner cooked by my wife."
The homeless man was astounded, "Won't your wife be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty bad."
The man replied, "Hey, man, that's okay! I just want her to see what a man looks like who's given up beer, gambling, and golf!"
