Most would consider that to be rorting the system or is claiming the dole whilst working something you consider a right? Either way I wouldn't think that Vets would be on the dole anyway.

When a govt. triesd to stop someone publicly arguing their case, it's a good indication that the govt. has something to hide.

Basically, Joyce lost it. He is the deputy pm and ran off to sulk in the corner. He either has not been briefed by his staff of what was to be asked of him, or he is just a fool. my guess is the latter. Let us all hope the man is never put in the situation where he has to make a decision that directly affects Australia and its people

Every single program should be shut and the money returned to the taxpayer. There would probably be enough savings to increase pensions for the needy as well.

Yep - can't argue with any of that. What also needs looking at is old age pensions and all the benefits that go with them in the form of concessions. There are people living in mansions that are also claiming a pension or at least a part pension , there are people hiding money in their homes to avoid bank details being known so they don't lose their pension, there are people who downsize housing, give the money to their kids and stay on the tit. There are plenty of people on the public teat that can afford to fund their own lifestyle with their own money. I don't have the figures, but I reckon that is up there with the best of them as a rip off for government funding

I know a number of vets (Vietnam, East Timor) and they'd pensioned well enough to not need any rorting.

Nobody in their right mind would downsize and hand their sudden "wealth" to their kids and pay x-amount of TAX. They are better off staying in their huge house and when they die the kids can sell it off, there is NO Death Duty/Tax.

If you even give your kid a deposit so that they can buy their first home, Centrelink wants to know about it. If you want to travel overseas, Centrelink knows about it. IF you think you can cheat the system, you can BUT you will be caught, eventually. Centrelink is "linked" to ATO, Foreign Affairs and the rest of the Departments. One thing that Centrelink cannot do is automatically sneak a peak at your Bank Account .... they need to get "authority" to do that. Any "windfall" that they, Centrelink, might get wind of .... then they can check.

Most of us live within our means and are decent human beings but there are the SCUM out there that think they can rip off Australians because they can. I loath that sort of person.
