My favourite sports car of that period is the Mercedes Sport. I had a friend who had a white one ....

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

I had a boy friend who borrowed his mate's Harley and I got on behind, tight skirt, no helmet, and he wound it up to whatever clicks .... scared the shit out of me. I also remember urging another boy friend to drive his MG faster ... he put the foot down and the MG only had those tiny little windshields ... tears running down my face ...

I have a lead foot too and often drove down the Hume Highway and flattened it (got to 160 in a little Mazda 323) .... then I saw the "blue light" up ahead ... Cops had stopped a couple of hoons (with fox tails) .... by which time (having taken my foot off the accelerator) I was doing the "normal" 100 kph ... phew. Also had some bloke in a silver sports car try to out do me one trip back ... I kept up with him for ages then he slowed down, so I did as well ... how stupid we are when young. :rofl

In early to mid 90s I went on a "slug run" ... a protest run where we go slow [for safety reasons :giggle ] and hold up all the traffic. We were protesting about a new ADR (Australian Design Rule) requiring all post 1992 bikes have their lights hard wired, meaning you can't turn your lights off. To a driver headed into the afternoon sun, a bike with its lights on is near invisible, so this ADR was getting riders killed as drivers went onto the wrong side of the road to overtake and having head ons with a bikes.
We approached Sydney from the North, then blocked both the harbour bridge and harbour tunnel - Ride up to toll booth, turn off bike, take gloves off, search for non existent change, hand over a large note, wait for change, then ask for a receipt.

I was on the tunnel crew and knew there were cameras in the tunnel but not speed cameras, so did 100 mph (Harley Cafe Racer was private import, still in mph) through the tunnel, and the only traffic in there were 2 other bikes.

A couple of years later some dopey Lebos did 240 kph (or something like that) through the tunnel with a video camera and uploaded it to the net. The cops busted them using the Lebs own video as evidence and Mr Authoritah put speed cameras in the tunnel.

If the roads around here were not so shit I would buy myself an MGB, I love them.
I like your story about doing 160 on the Hume highway Nef.
Back in my mid twenties I was still living in Sydney and had to go down to Canberra for work. The week before I had been given a new Comodore as a company car so I thought I'd see how it went on the way home as I'd made pretty good time on the drive down there. I was going well until on the outskirts of Sydney just out of Campbelltown I was clocked by an Airial patrol at 163km, unfortunately for me as I came around a bend a big fat copper was standing there with a stop police sign.
Needless to say I didn't get to keep that company car for too long as I lost my license for six months two weeks later when I appeared in court.
I can laugh at it now.

When I was in the Public Service, in one position, I need to go out on "inspections" so I could sign for a car and head out. My own car at the time was a little blue Mazda 343 hatchback (the one I got to 160 kph on the Hume Highway)... the Company car was much more powerful and an automatic. So I am out checking whatever and coming back across the Commonwealth Bridge I look down and see that I am doing 140 clicks ... in a 60 zone. Ooops. No Cops around, thankfully. LOL
