Well..I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and Margaritas into urine.

LOL!!!!!!!

That is classic.

Heh, bought another model car today. A little VW Kombi van, surfboard on the roof :)

Also a vietnamese cookbook. Total came to less than $20!

Just a hunch, I bet you get more mileage out of the Vietnamese cookbook.

Is there a recipe for Uncle Ho's Liberation Lying Gulag Goulash? It was all the range with the Western Left in the early 70s.

Jane Fonda was going to make a vedio on it but got sidtracked by capitalism and areobics.

Yes the Kombi van is now on top of a bookcase between a saltglazed plate and a Gouda jug. Won't do too many miles there.

Uncle Ho might have been a minor figure but Uncle Sam didn't listen to his OSS people. That aside, the Vietnamese now own their own country.

Good thing the US did not listen to the OSS or it would have been complicit in setting up a one party authoritarian state that destroyed the economy for years, sent hundreds of thousands to concentration camps, purged Catholics, assinated or jailed political opponents, abused children by using them as solders, used terror against South Vietnamese civilians and broke every agreement they signed.

Oh, and had they in 1949 they probably would have thrown France over to the communists as well and emboldened communist insurgency everywhere in South East Asia.

As to Veitnam belonging to the Vietnamese, well not until the Communist party consents to let the people consent, even the US finally did that in South Vietnam. It is taking the Communist party a long time to get around to it.

No, VN could have been free and democratic BUT Uncle Sam weren't listening.

That was what I meant above.

The OSS confused convergence of strategic interest against Japan (hell the US had that with the Soviet Union as well) and Uncle Ho spouting Declaration of Indepdence propaganda as the possibility of a democratic Vietnam, Ho's subsequent rule post the expelling of the French revealed that was a fantasy, as he drove Catholics south, killed or imprisoned opposition and created terror networks in the South, and the party the glorifies him subsequently did the same in the South.

To this day the party of HO can but have not established a democracy, 36 years after the US departed.

Sigh. . .the OSS knew leaders that could have created a free, non-communist Viet Nam. Uncle Sam didn't listen and so Ho took over.
