Fake News Attempt Fails Perp Charged -Rugby

This is the strangest story ever what the hell was he trying to do put the Aussies off their game?

All Blacks security consultant charged over listening device found in hotel
Tom Decent

Police have charged a security consultant employed by the All Blacks in relation to a listening device found in the team's hotel in the lead-up to the first Bledisloe Cup match of last year.

Fairfax Media understands police have charged Adrian Gard, the director of Bodyguards International - a security and investigations company based in Brisbane - with public mischief while he was employed as a security consultant by New Zealand Rugby.

It is believed Gard has worked for the All Blacks as a security consultant for 10 years whenever they have toured Australia.

Gard did not return calls from Fairfax Media, however his brother Ashley, who is the director of BGI Security – the company Adrian also works for in the operations department and the company used by the All Blacks – refused to comment when contacted on Tuesday, saying the matter was in the hands of lawyers.

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen described the charge as "bizarre and unbelievable".

"It's very hard to understand," Hansen said. "The charged man has worked for the All Blacks, and many other organisations, for a long time and is someone who is trusted and well-respected by us.

"However, as with all cases before the courts, there has to be a due process that takes place and it is not right or proper for us to make any further comment as this could jeopardise the outcome of the case."

Mr Gard will appear in Waverley Local Court on March 21, charged with public mischief, which is defined as: "Any person who, by any means, knowingly makes to a police officer any false representation that an act has been, or will be, done" which "calls for an investigation by a police officer".

The motives behind his actions are unclear but Mr Gard could face a maximum of 12 months imprisonment.

Mr Gard has had his fair share of high profile clients in the past. The company, BGI Security, has been hired by Schapelle Corby, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods and Tara Reid when they have travelled to Australia.

As reported late last year, NSW Police were still exploring a number of avenues as to who planted the listening device at the InterContinental Hotel in Double Bay that was found by All Blacks team officials on the eve of the first Bledisloe Cup match at ANZ Stadium.

The peculiar thing about the whole story was the fact it took five days for New Zealand officials to report the matter to police.

Australian Rugby Union chief executive Bill Pulver took a swipe on Tuesday at the timing of the story which broke on the Saturday morning before Australia were thumped 42-8 by the All Blacks at ANZ Stadium.

"The aspect that still leaves a bitter taste out of this whole affair is that the discovery of the device was reported publicly on game day, when it is understood that the alleged discovery of the device occurred much earlier in the week leading up to the Test match," Pulver said.

"Clearly the media attention which resulted from it was a distraction that neither team needed on the morning of a very important Test match.

"The ARU and the Wallabies were never accused of any wrongdoing, however it was still important that this matter reached a conclusion to provide complete reassurance to all fans that the organisation and the team had no part in any of this. There may be some questions that remain but certainly today's news is welcome news that an individual has been called to account over this incident."

Initial reports suggested the listening device, which was allegedly found in a chair in a team meeting room, was of high quality but Fairfax Media understands police's examination of the device found it to be far from that.

A police source said in September: "A lot of people are going to be spoken to and we've got to treat every possibility [seriously]. We've got to look at all avenues regardless of our personal opinions.

"Given the attention the investigation requires, it can be a criminal offence, so if it got to that then absolutely we'd be looking at criminally pursuing it.

The room where the device was found did not contain CCTV, but police were able to review persons going in and out of the meeting room.

In 1998 I was living with this chick at Bradbury (satellite suburb of Campbelltown) who used to sell her ex weed 'coz it was the only way she could get child maintenance for their kid. He (her ex) sometimes worked on recycling runs around Cabramatta.

She often ran a candle in the bed room. He gave her a Santa Clause candle he got from a recycling run.
For about a week this Santa candle was hard to light and crackled while burning. One night she called me up to the bed room,
showed me the near finished candle, and asked "What's this?" ... I looked at it with the light on and replied "Not absolutely sure, but I think it's a bug".

I took it downstairs to the kitchen and heated a butter knife with a hot plate to cut the remaining wax away.
Took me about 20 mins, but sure enough it was a listening device. Took it up and showed her ... "This is the base plate, this is the electret microphone, this is the circuit board, this is the (camera) battery and this is what's left of the aerial" (in wick).

She suspected her ex, but I dismissed it with "No the battery's fucked" ..." He said he got it off recycling at Cabramatta, so it was probably some Vietnamese smack dealer spying on his girlfriend".

Since that time I've helped put together one of the 1.5v bug kits you get from Oatley Electronics (mail order only now, can't buy over the counter anymore - I figure govt agencies want the addresses so they know who's buying the gear) and the one inside the candle was configured differently. But what surprised me is they work inside wax ... they must do, otherwise why bother using that (candle) method?
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
