I thought I was gonna die!
Sitting here, minding my own business and ACTEWAGL apparently decided to do some "maintenance" ........ I have been WITHOUT POWER for 2 hours!
No TV/Foxtel, no Telstra line phone (I accidentally dropped my mobile phone the other day so that is stuffed as well) No INTERNET ... without POWER I may as well curl up and die ... especially since we had 38C here today. No Air Conditioning! No Fans!
Apparently there is a grass fire not too far from Canberra .... another problem SMOKE ... my lungs have problems already without smoke inhalation from "grass fires".
So, here I am, stuck without being ABLE to CALL ANYBODY .... running a temperature (38.9) about to "top" myself and the lights come back. Geeze.
Fortunately, Canberra doesn't have electricity problems ( I can remember about 3 times in 25 years) ... these days phones are OFF when electricity goes down .... I felt VERY VULNERABLE.
Now I have to arrange a new Mobile Phone ....
LIFE wasn't meant to be EASY, easy, was it?

Re: I thought I was gonna die!
are you OK nef???.. yesterdays news did confirm power would be turned off in Hawker and another suburb... it was planned and they were going ahead even with the weather report...pretty inconsiderate.. but maybe it was unavoidable....the wind is bad as well last night daughter was driving home got to her suburb and half a tree came down right in front of her.. today we came past and its still lying there...
not too sure this town is really in a good place when it comes to dealing with emergencies...
I hope things are back to normal for you.

Sorry to hear that Nef and I hope you are ok now.
If the power was turned off deliberately on a day like today then the idiots in Canberra who authorised this should be shot.

Just wait until the lefty swamphole is dragged backwards with 50-100% renewables.
You will be just like SA. The only difference being that people notice when SA has a blackout.

Well I don't have electrickery ... it's been 40C+ for days on end ... mobile reception drops out every time a wind comes ... and grass/bush fires are a common event out my way ... Welcome to my world
Meanwhile I've got a drug fucked idiot who's (according to police) supposed to be in gaol prowling around my place on a nightly basis. Think I'll go see his parole officer.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

I thought about what would happen if the electricity went out over the last few days - it's been so stinking hot. Thank God it didn't. I don't have air conditioning, but I've got a few fans, but without those - the house would have been a sauna even with all my trees.Neferti~ wrote:Sitting here, minding my own business and ACTEWAGL apparently decided to do some "maintenance" ........ Re: I thought I was gonna die!
Canberra had a massive windstorm that apparently caused the electricity failure, trees down everywhere and most suburbs on the Northside were affected. My electricity was off for 2 hours but some people still didn't have power the next morning! I guess I was lucky, but without power for that length of time was really scary ... luckily it doesn't happen very often and if the power does go off, it is usually for a few minutes, NOT hours.

Power was lost due to a wind storm in the ACT!
