Summer Flu/Virus

Post by lisa jones » Mon Dec 05, 2016 5:45 pm

Bloody awful thing to have.

I'm on day 2 of this horrid journey and I'm trying to avoid antibiotics.

What natural remedies do you guys know of/use?

Drink lots of beer. :rofl Not only will it supply calories, it will also make you forget you have "the flu". :rofl

NB. Antibiotics don't work on a virus. If it goes down into your lungs and creates bacteria .... then you need antibiotics. ;)

depends lisa if you have been diagnosed?...

I had a dose of bronchitis not long ago I also thought it was flu.
I did finally drag myself in to the doc and got the dreaded antibis... and after two weeks felt 100% better.

I spent two weeks in and out of bed every couple of hours...awful feeling...

you can buy over the counter things..like lemsips for flu..

I think I may need to admit that I need antibiotics

I'm cranky because I sterilise everything here with boiling water....I go through so much bleach....I wash our clothes etc every day.

Perhaps fatigue and stress has caused this....that and the blooming ever changing weather.

Actually, you raise a valid point there Cods.

I've had asthma/bronchitis since my early 20's. (The result of working/studying too hard and trying to self-treat what turned out to be double pneumonia).

Puffer. Lord knows where it is. Handbag? Which one lol??

BRB.

maybe you try to be too clean... how many times do you hear of people coming home from hospital with worse than they went in..

its because they are so bloody deadset on sterilising everything.. they kill the good bacteria as well as the bad...
I came home with golden staph.... I do hope you dont use all this crap stuff by Detol cleaning your benches down every 5 min...

try to relax lisa....and yes get yourself to the doctor before you make it worse..

I am fine, Cods, the weather doesn't bother me, I have air conditioning (and Foxtel to keep me amused  ). In Winter I leave the Daikin (reverse cycle) on 24/7. :thumb

I had some tests done in Deakin last year, including the "6 minute walk test". Normal healthy adults can get between 400m and 700m. I got 550m. It is walking up and down a passage, so flat surface, so I "did good".

I have no problems walking up stairs but hills/slopes ... nope ... apparently something to do with the muscles in your upper chest, whereas walking up stairs is using the leg muscles. :roll

I find that I can't rush around as much as I used to, or lift stuff (another thing using the arms, chest muscles) also I no longer hang clothes on the line, I use the dryer. Can't do gardening for more than about 10 minutes so have given up on that. Have had someone mow the grass for a decade or more and he used to do the gardening too but he retired to Lake Macquarie and now all I have is a bloke who cuts the grass ... doesn't do gardening. Ah well.

However, I AM retired, so sitting on my bum, watching stuff on Foxtel suits me. What about you, Cods?

PS. I have to be very careful about "the flu" ... I get the flu jab every March but I still have to worry about people coughing/sneezing near me ... I did end up in Calvary Hospital last year, for 5 days due to a chest infection that was "almost" pneumonia ... Ambulance and all ... no Golden staff. :rofl
