Stuff you hear.

Post by Aussie » Fri Oct 02, 2009 7:30 pm

Groucho Marks was being talked about on whatever frequency I had the Cab radio tuned to this afternoon. It was the ABC's local FM frequency. They informed the Planet that Groucho had this exchange with a Lady on some TV show he was hosting. The Lady had many children, and Groucho, according to the august ABC, asked of her, "Why so many children?" She replied, "Because I love my husband." The ABC told me that Groucho quipped, "I love my cigar, but I do take it out sometimes."

When I, and my passengers heard that, we all had a great guffaw. I was quite amazed I had not heard of it before, because it is very, very witty as an off the cuff ad libbed comment.

Bugger me, you just can't even trust the ABC!

Groucho was a God.

My favorate quote of his is: "Women should be obscene and not heard."

Nice, but I thought this would be more of your liking:

"Whoever named it necking was a poor judge of anatomy. "

Clips from Groucho's TV show from the 1950's are available on Youtube. The movie "Duck Soup" is a classic.

Ducks Soup, Horsefeathers and Animal Crackers

Night at the Opera is great too except the producers put in all that fucking singing. The cabin scene was a real killer.

AIA, do you remember re-runs of "You Bet Your Life"? He used to have so many off the cuff, witty one liners.

Most game show hosts are so boring these days, where is the Groucho for our time?

The clips of You Bet Your Life are on YouTube. The only other show that was as witty was Hollywood Squares with Paul Lynne and many, many others. Later it came to light that not only was the show completely scripted it was often filmed when the cast was roaring drunk.

I loved Hollywood Squares! I did not know about the scripting but the drunk part makes sense.

They should bring this show back, fill the green room with booze and have Seinfeld-Kramer in the center square.

It may go a little something like this.....

Chris Rock: "Why he get the center square, whitey an't funny."

Kramer: "Fuck you Chris Rock you fucking NIGGER! He is a NIGGER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
