Pacific "Ring of Fire" lives up to its name

Sumatra suffering TWO earthquakes in 2 days, plus the one near Samoa, the one that caused the tsunami.

Hope the tectonic plates have settled for quite a while! If we have three we could well have more, not a nice thought!

Scary stuff. I heard some guy on the TV talking about how Australia is due for a big tsunami.

Apparently, based on analysis of sediments and some big chunks of rock inland that could only have come from the Heads the East coast suffered some big tsunamis in about 1500AD.

That ring of fire is very unstable due to tectonic plates being forced under one another.

Adelaide could still get some quakes too, but I doubt any tsunami--the Gulf St Vincent is too shallow. Adelaide is a classic 'horst und graben' mountain building area where blocks move up while others move down. Willunga Hill having quite a straight top to it indicates it is recent geologically--that block slopes very gently down to Victor Harbor.

I do not think an earthquake caused this tsunami.

Samoans are fat, really fat, Maoris look like supermodels in comparison.

I think the entire island made the mistake of all going to the same beach at the same time and tipped the tectonic scales.

Hello, my name is Johnny Cash.

Love Is A Burning Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Bound By Wild Desire
I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire

CHORUS:
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

The Taste Of Love Is Sweet
When Hearts Like Ours Meet
I Fell For You Like A Child
Oh, But The Fire Went Wild

CHORUS
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

And It Burns, Burns, Burns

The Ring Of Fire

The Ring Of Fire

The man in black wrote that in his hotel bathroom on his first trip to Mexico.

Yea they say Sydney had a Tsunami hit it in the 15-16 hundreds and they are well overdue for another. We've been pretty lucky when you consider what our neighbours have had to face over just the recent past.

ABC website today reported a big quake off Sulawesi overnight. That Ring is acting up--must have eaten one of my curries :)

Seriously, seems rather a concentration of quakes in the Indo area.
