http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... years.htmlBritain's first national sperm bank has abandoned attempts to recruit donors after two years.
The National Sperm Bank was set up to tackle a shortage of donor sperm in the UK, but only managed to recruit eight men.
This later reduced to seven after one dropped out.
Set up in October 2014, it was intended to help supply sperm to NHS clinics.
But now it said it will no longer fund donor recruitment.
The failure comes despite advertising campaigns asking men to join ‘the very special tribe’.
The sperm bank was set up in 2014 with a £77,000 grant from the Department of Health.
Based in Birmingham, the NSB received a one-off £77,000 grant from the Department of Health to get up and running. The aim was for the bank to be financially self-sufficient within one year.
The NSB was a joint project run by the charity the National Gamete Donation Trust and Birmingham Fertility Centre, a unit at Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
With the full donor process taking up to 18 months, the bank was unable to generate income in the second year.
Following a change in the law, all children conceived as the result of sperm donation on or after 1 April 2005, have the right to know the identity of their father when they turn 18.
UK needs more sperm donors

I wonder if less people donate now because they can be traced?
Do they pay you for it? I'm sure plenty of uni students would make "donations" for a small payment of fifty of even twenty dollars.
