Drones from the Caliphate
ISIS will start to weaponize hobby-sized drones for attacks all over the world one day. When do you think that nightmare will start? Is the technology already in existence?

Yes it is ready.AiA in Atlanta wrote:ISIS will start to weaponize hobby-sized drones for attacks all over the world one day. When do you think that nightmare will start? Is the technology already in existence?
In fact I want one. I see this year is the first world championship drone races. They wear VR goggles and it looks great. You are see it first hand as if you were on board. Add a bomb, needs to be very light and you have a tool with absolute precision.
Add a longer range comms to run it for many miles away... and you have a guides missile.
Fabulous tech. Cheep when you consider the impact. They can go over 100 MPH. And these are the racing version but hey, any hobbist can buy them
I want one.

I thin you would need to engineer it yourself. I suppose some weapons maker will provide this, where there is demand there will be supply.AiA in Atlanta wrote:but what about the weapon technology for drones? does that exist? i know the US military uses it but does something similar exist for others, like ISIS?
I can envisage a simple device to turn them into bombs. Or dropping grenades. Weight will be an issue.

They just attach and ied to a drone.... cant be very big, most drones have very little carrying capacity

Agree. I think they are making some that can deal with more weight, the hobby ones are designed to just carry themselves and could carry very little.Rorschach wrote:They just attach and ied to a drone.... cant be very big, most drones have very little carrying capacity

It is no more nightmarish than people walking round with guns.

a drone carrying a dirty bomb. that i think would be fairly easy. Europe will be the first target.

Or even worse, a person carrying a dirty bomb.
