Fracking is perfectly safe.

Depends on the method used.

For example in Qld, coal seam gas, which of course is natural gas, which is anywhere from 75% to 90% methane (CH4) is steamed in a method similar to Acid Leach Mining (typically used to extract Sulphate of Potash - potasium fertiliser - and sometimes Uranium).
3 holes are drilled, pressurised steam is injected into the 2 outer drillings and the gas escapes via the middle drilling. Of course there is some leakage but the steam is harmless. The only potential problem with this method is if the gas gets into ground water, it makes it harder and in some cases impossible for bore pumps to extract water from the aquifer.

I spoke with a driller and he said with a laugh "We fuck farmers bores all the time" .. "One time we fucked his bore, so we drilled him two new ones, and then we fucked those too".

With Acid Leach Mining of Uranium, the problem isn't just Sulphuric acid contaminating ground water, but particle of Uranium also.
Depending on how much the aquifer is replenished and flushed, eventually the Sulphuric acid is neutralised by water, but the Uranium remains.

Fracking in U$A has a bad name to the fracking fluids employed - quite often dieseline.
For example the grond water in Texas is fucked virtually forever because Texas is a dry place, so it'll be a long time before the aquifer is flushed.

One problem I've envisaged with fracking fluids designed to break up the rock strata that nobody seems to be asking questions about, is, ... if they're using acids to break up the bed rock, won't that theoretically leave that area prone to Liquifaction during earth-quakes?
Liquifaction is when the ground crumbles and slides like gravel down a slope during seismic events.

My personal opinion is, if the geology of the area is suitable, steam fracking is fine.
But I don't see why Chinese consumers should pay less for our gas than we do.
When it comes to natural resources, I err on the side on protectionism.
