Shorten and the ALP

Post by Rorschach » Wed Aug 24, 2016 10:44 pm

Is it just me or does Bill Shorten and the ALP think they won the last election?
Is that why they seem to think the Coalition Government should implement their policies?
Is that why they think they have the right to stop Government legislation and expect the Government to implement theirs?

Maybe someone should tell them the election is over for another 3 years and that they are in Opposition.
OPPOSITION Leader Bill Shorten’s promise to work constructively with the Turnbull Government has been broken before the first sitting day of the new parliament next week.

Mr Shorten has thrown doubt on more than $6 billion in savings measures he supported before the federal election by proposing cuts that are better described as tax increases.

Mr Shorten’s so-called cuts include increases on negative gearing, capital gains and super contributions and an increase in tobacco excise.
Instead, he has returned to the politics of division in attempting to govern from the Opposition benches
.
His motivation might be to force the government into an early election by making it impossible to pass its legislation, but by doing so he will only hurt the nation.

Australia cannot continue to carry a debt burden that will exceed $330 billion this year and a Budget deficit of some $37 billion.
The time for politicking is over and Mr Shorten must establish his leadership credentials if he seeks to overturn the Coalition at the next election.

But he thinks of no one but himself by his posturing
.
Mr Shorten talks of “job-creating projects and dreams being held back by petty politics’’. But the petty politics are his own.

Graham Richardson...
Next it was Shorten’s turn to put me in my place. He came up with a press conference, and while he performed confidently, he also demanded the government’s complete capitulation to his plan to reduce debt. Someone must soon tell Bill, that while he did do particularly well in this election, he actually came out the loser. He did not visit the Governor-General and his team was not sworn in. Bill, you are in a strong negotiating position but you have no power to order the government to do your bidding.

Shorten seems to be using quite clever psychology. He did win in his own way by bringing Labor out of the wilderness. The more he talks confidently about his party being winners, the more people will have confidence in his ability as potential PM. While the Coalition stuffs around continually blaming Labor for their problems, the weaker they'll look as a government.

At the moment more people are probably listening to Shorten than they are to our pseudo PM Scott Morrison. Forget Turnbull - most people would have switched off by now to anything he has to say.
