Australian Bureau of Statistics paid nearly $10 million to develop the official census website - a platform for millions of residents to fill out the compulsory survey on August 9.
Leaked receipts, obtained by EFTM, have revealed ABS awarded the contract 'Design, development and implementation of eCensus Solution 2016' to IBM Australia.
Following concerns the system could crash due to high volumes of users accessing the website, ABS forked out more than $460,000 on software licenses and testing to ensure the page would not descend into meltdown.
ABS paid Australian company Revolution IT Pty Ltd in three separate contracts for 'Load Testing Services for Census 2016'.
The organisation initially claimed the online census form could handle one million form submissions per hour.
But despite spending tens of thousands of dollars on system testing, the website went down completely on Census night, causing a nationwide outrage.

IBM Global Services Australia tend to like running on the smell of an oily rag.
It was obvious from a long way out that the online Census was going to fail... I predicted it would freeze and crash ages ago... as for hacking etc... pull the other one the ABS told people to logon on the night of the 9th all we have here is people doing what they were asked to do and a system incapable of handling the traffic.

At the very least Australians managed this project and possibly were directly involved in the software and load testing.

I did the paper version, and did so early (back on the 4th) because the bureau slipped in a flyer asking me to do so on the grounds they hadn't had a census form my property before (only put a letter box up about a year ago).
I heard people yesterday gossiping about their site crashing, which I assumed meant it couldn't handle the traffic.
But this morning's Australian has numerous articles and commentaries regarding denial of service attacks, presumably from offshore.
As for IBM, well what do you expect from a company who's first big break was numbering Jews?
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?
