Re: Dedicated to the unlucky
How unlucky is this.
Unlucky why - 1st in 200 years, family get a grand or so for his death.
Meteorite Strike Kills Indian Bus Driver
A bus driver was killed and three others injured by a meteorite in India, according to the authorities.
If confirmed it would be the first recorded death by falling space debris in nearly 200 years.
Scientists are now investigating the blast at the engineering college in the southeast state of Tamil Nadu, which left a small crater and broken windows.
Chief minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram said: "A meteorite fell within the college premises."
The man "sustained serious injuries and died while on the way to the hospital," she added.
The victim's family has been awarded 100,000 rupees (£1,018) in compensation.
Meteorite Strike Kills Indian Bus Driver© Sky News Meteorite Strike Kills Indian Bus Driver The bus driver was standing on a patch of grass near the college canteen when he was killed, while two gardeners and a student were also hurt, officials said.
A dark blue stone resembling a diamond was found at the scene.
Government officials initially thought the blast was caused by explosives leftover after building work, but no evidence of this was found at the site.
A district official said: "When no evidence of explosive material was found, we moved to the theory that it might be a meteorite.
"It is not confirmed yet as samples need to be analysed."
A team from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics is expected to visit the scene to collect samples.
The principal of the college in Vellore district, said: "It was a sound like nothing I've ever heard before.
"There was no smell at all, no fire, nothing."
The last reported death from a meteorite strike was in 1825, records show.
Simon Goodwin, an astrophysics expert at the University of Sheffield, said meteorite deaths are rare because the rocks usually burn up when passing through the Earth's atmosphere or land in the ocean or remote areas.
"When you look at the fraction of the Earth's surface that is heavily populated, it's not very much," he said.
In 2013, a meteorite exploded over central Russia, raining fireballs over a vast area and causing a shockwave that smashed windows, damaged buildings and injured 1,200 people.

Bad day to catch a train to Munich.
Train crash in Germany kills at least 8, injures 150
BAD AIBLING, Germany — Two commuter trains crashed head-on Tuesday morning in southern Germany, killing at least eight people and injuring some 150, police said.
Police spokesman Stefan Sonntag told The Associated Press the two regional trains crashed before 7 a.m. on the single line that runs near Bad Aibling, in Bavaria, and that several wagons overturned.
Fifty of those hurt have serious injuries, he said. It took hours to reach some of the injured in the wreckage.
The rail line is commonly used by commuters heading to work in Munich, and would normally also carry children traveling to school, but they are currently on holiday, the dpa news agency reported.
The trains crashed in a remote area about 60 kilometers (40 miles) southeast of Munich in an area with a forest on one side and a river on the other.

Re: Dedicated to the unlucky
This is a very unlucky girl.
This 12-Year-Old Girl Is Living With An Ant Colony Inside Her Head
Normally when someone says they have an ant problem, they mean ants have infested their home, not their head. The latter is actually true in the case of Shreya Darji, 12.
Hundreds of ants continue to live inside the girl’s head, with about a dozen or so emerging from her ears every day, according to the Toronto Sun. The Deesa, Gujarat girl complained of ear pain last August, and doctors discovered she had a colony inside her head. They have repeatedly pulled the creatures, dead and alive, from her ears, but the ants continue to reproduce and occupy their space in Darji’s head.
Doctors have tried flushing her ears with antiseptic to drown the ants, and have tried several times to locate and kill the queen ant with laparoscopic cameras. Darji has even seen witch doctors, but nothing seems to help — the ants keep reproducing, the Sun reported.
“The girl’s case is very challenging for me, as I have never seen such a case, nor found it in medical history,” Dr. Jawahar Talsania told the Times of India. “The big ants must be biting her, but the girl did not feel pain inside her ears. Besides, there was no damage inside her ear.”
Darji is currently under video surveillance in an Ahmedabad medical unit.

Re: Dedicated to the unlucky
This is sad and shows how close we are as mammals. I swear my dog is 1/2 human sometimes.
I hope he gets a life soon.
This dog is so depressed after a failed adoption he just stares at the wall
A rescue dog now spends his days staring at a blank wall after his would-be adoptees pulled out at the last minute.
Heart-breaking photographs of March, a pit mix, have surfaced showing the canine in the depths of depression.
Living in animal rescue shelter ACCT in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since he was brought in as a stray, the 58 lbs pooch was finally due to be rescued.
But at the last minute, his new family pulled out of the deal and March was taken back to the shelter.
Since then the mutt has spent his days facing the plain grey wall in his kennel, and interest in him has sharply declined.
Gripped with melancholy, he is now said to be getting sick with sadness.
Fox News reporter Dawn Timmeney, who witnessed March’s dejection first hand, posted online: “This boy thought he was about to embark on a better life, only to be returned to the scary Philadelphia city shelter.
“Sadly, he has barely gotten any notice, and he is getting depressed and sick now.
“He was such a happy boy, but shelter life is taking a toll on him.”
Described as a ‘handsome’ dog by volunteers, a fund has now been set up by sympathisers to get March a forever home.
Already raising $709 in just over a day, organisers hope this will be the boost March needs

It is sad that people are such arseholes. She got more shit as an adult.
But I can see why, she would be perfect as 2Faces partner in the next batman movie.
Woman branded "Two Face" after Batman villain by cruel bullies over facial birthmark
A mother who dreaded wearing fancy dress because people thought her birthmark was part of her costume has finally embraced it to set a positive example to her son.
Heather Graves, 45, never had any issues with the port wine stain covering the left side of her face as a child - yet as an adult, she found herself the victim of cruel taunts .
The director of voluntary services and community engagement, of Colorado Springs, US, began to hate dressing up in costumes and avoided themed parties when, aged 18, fellow college students nicknamed her 'Two Face' after the Batman villain.
As a result, Heather said she "hibernated" every Halloween.
But, when her son Kaden, 11, grew old enough to want to join in with trick or treating, the devoted mum didn't want him to miss out.
