Congratulations to Jarryd Hayne ...
Surrounded by players living the lifestyles of the rich and famous, Jarryd Hayne has been getting by sharing a hotel room in the remote town of Santa Clara on the weekly wage of an apprentice plumber.
Since joining the San Francisco 49ers in April, Hayne, who was on close to $1 million a season with the Parramatta Eels in the NRL, has been waiting each week for $600 to roll into his account.
He's boarding private jets, training in the best facilities on the planet, representing one of the most famous sporting franchises in the world, yet Hayne is driving around a second-hand Mazda and collecting a pay-packet that a teenager living at home would complain about.
It's not about the money, it never was.
But for a man who is used to five-figure amounts popping into his bank account on a weekly basis, he admits it will be a nice feeling when he receives the first of 17 (duration of NFL season including the bye) weekly contract payments this week.
While Hayne is expected to earn millions in endorsement deals following his successful transition, his three-year deal with the 49ers is worth $US1.58 million,($AUD2.3 million) which means his first genuine pay day this week will yield $USD25,588 ($AUD37,022).
In an interview with Fairfax Media in April, Hayne said "this was never about the money. I know what I'm over here for. If I lose everything, then so be it".
...
"My biggest concern now is what I'm doing for dinner," Hayne said.
"Beyond that, I don't really care. You know what I mean? You just let it happen. It's all about faith, baby."
"From giving up what I gave up, coming across here … it's the in-depth things, the dark days, the things I went through that are probably more significant than any of my achievements. For me, that's what's more important, getting through those tough days more than the days where I can celebrate. That's where I've grown more as a person."
Imagine if he ends up at the Super Bowl? GO Jarryd!

Yea he's proving to be a real star isn't it? I was watching some of his runs tonight he has raw talent. I've never bothered to even watch American football before but I must admit Hayne has made me look at the news clips of his own performance and he looks like he's kicking butt already.

Apparently his #38 is the most popular selling jersey at present on the NFL's online store. He's a champion.
"I'll be honest with you, I've never seen anything like it before. It's crazy," a 49ers store salesman told Fairfax Media in August. "Not only do I watch pro football, but I watch other sports too and this is unheard of. It's incredible. His jersey is in high demand right now. He's exceeded a lot of expectations transitioning into NFL football. He's a wonder kid. He's in such high demand right now.
"The jerseys are custom made and they are going off the shelves. We started making some custom jerseys for him about two weeks ago just prior to the first preseason game. But the media following and buzz around him have people interested. I've made about 10 or 15 custom jerseys myself. People are coming in and asking for Hayne 38 and waiting 40 minutes to get that jersey custom made and tailored to their size. It's grown men, it's women. Everyone wants a piece of him at the moment."

Jarryd won his place in the squad for the season opener. Damned shame it isn't being shown on 7mate.
I hope he really shines today. Go you good thing!

Apparently it is really windy there and the ball was spiralling.
I feel really sorry for Jarryd as he must be under a huge amount of pressure. The aussie press is unconscionable and loves to tear down tall poppies after building them up to the extreme.
This from Michael Chammas SMH after the fumble ..
If my wife is reading, chicken schnitzel and potato bake dinner request for Thursday night. My flight on the Hayne Plane is coming to an end.
Another lot said the aussies could go home now because Hayne was 'done'.
Bunch of wankers and I hope Hayne 'spits in their faces'.

We love tearing down our tall poppies. I go to the US and trying for success is respected and if you fail... well you tried, get up and go again.
I think this tall popping stuff is so engrained in our cultural psyche that it is holding us back because we should be a risk taking nation.

Never heard of this bloke. Checked him out. Fijian? Thick in the head with muscles in the legs and groin. IDEAL family man for some blond bimbo.

Only half Fijian Nef. Brought up by his Mum I think.
Not into tall poppy syndrome, but some people need to be kept down to earth and I think most Aussies are and our culture used to foster this in a variety of ways. I just think it was disappointing he fumbled the first catch... disappointing for him and probably his fans.
I was disappointed for him... it wasn't an easy catch either.
