I wonder if we are representative of the average aussie or would most not understand what they are voting for and don't really understand why our system works well the way it is.
I am a republican in theory but I don't want a politician to tell me the best system we should adopt. The main reason the last referendum didn't get up is it wasn't what the people wanted it was what the politicians told us was the best option for us.
We will become a republic, probably after the UK dump the monarchy.

I voted YES for the Republic in the Referendum. The problem is that WE want to vote for our President, not have the Government choose somebody they think is OK. Wasn't the Yes vote 45% or something?

I certainly do NOT want to go down the road the the Americans have with constant politics and 3 years of huge sums of money spent, etcetera.

I envisage Australia becoming truly INDEPENDENT, with our own Head of State ... voted in by the PEOPLE. A PRESIDENT. The Prime Minister is the Head of the President's stuff and appointed by him. Blah blah.

We could do with a new FLAG too .... minus the British stuff. New Zealand is about to do it. ;)

Meanwhile, I don't anticipate that any of this will eventuate in the next 15 years but .... WHO wants King Charles?

IT WILL HAPPEN, just a matter of when and most of us will be dead anyway, I suspect.

New Zealand is changing its flag because it is often mistaken for the Aussie flag. Nothing to do with being anti monarchy.

If we decide to change our flag we will probably be forced to have a red/black/yellow one. I am happy with the flag we have now as it shows our roots.

We should change our flag to a black one out of respect for the aborigines, with a white gum leaf on it, to represent all the illegal immigrants from NZ.

Why not just black, that way the progressives can use it as an armband 24/7 to signify they are playing the lefty grievance game while simultaneously wiping any trace of national pride. This will in turn send a message to the younger generation to be self loathers as well.

Plus a boat to represent the others and a gay rainbow to represent our sexuality these days.

Yep BO, that's one reason, but the four choices we have are crap and remind me of a brand rather than signifying a nation....Key is a huge lover, and proponent of the idea of a silver fern....fucking smarmy prick. Personally I don't mind our current flag, I don't care that it may get mistaken for your guys one either.

There ya go Rorschach, I participated 8-)

And about Bloody time...

Now keep that up for a year and you might actually be an active participant.

I only like 2 of the 4 and they are very similar both have ferns and are not the one John Keys likes.

Pollies have no taste.
How come they had such little variety in the final choices hmmm?

LOL FD does have a sense of humour. :D
At least the Kiwis are not afraid to look at other options for their flag. I think most Aussies are too lazy to care, I kind of am myself. I wouldn't mind a new flag but I don't have any particular favourite in mind nor a burning desire to change it.

Would if I didn't travel so much for work, and most of my down time is taken up with family. Then there's beer, with the cuzzies and bros. I like beer.

Don't like any of them. There were 40, (out of something like 10,000 odd), that made it to the final selection process, but really when you look at it, there were only 4 or 5 main ideas just with different colour combinations and positioning of the Koru, or silver fern, peak or Southern Cross. A quick google you'll see, if you're interested. I don't know what the fucks going on with the selection committee and their choices, pack of old fuckwits don't have a clue, (there really wasn't much public consultation but they seem to have taken a shine to a couple of the designers in particular),I just know I like the old flag, and beer, and it's a waste of a decent amount of money ($26 M) that could've been put to better use. Looking forward to seeing what the vote throws up.

Geeze Rorschach, you and me might actually be on the precipice of interaction... :f
