Here is a list of reasons whereby people could be admitted to an insane asylum in the 1800s.
Masterbation, deranged masterbation, desertion by husband, fell from horse in war, salvation army, rumour of husband murder, female disease?
Bad habits and political excitement, business nerves and bad whiskey?
Imagine how quiet forums would have been back then without egotism and hysteria?

When patients were committed to the Willard Asylum for the Insane in Upstate New York, they arrived with a suitcase packed with all of the possessions they thought they needed for their time inside.
Most never left. The mental hospital had an average stay of nearly 30 years. When patients died, they were buried in nameless graves across the street of the asylum. Their suitcases, with all their worldly possessions, were locked in an attic and forgotten.
In 1995, an employee of the mental hospital discovered the suitcases, 400 of them. They date from 1910 to 1960

Times have changed.
You could get anyone committed for any reason.... just to get them out of the way.
It was insane I tell you.

Always remember what you post, send or do on the internet is not private and you are responsible.

Moantra would be committed for life.
I'm pretty sure she suffers from all of them and I bet she has a suitcase exactly like those, filled with old coke cans, cards and imaginary gifts from her imaginary children.
She keeps it under her old rocking chair.

Nobody gets committed these days ... they are left to wander the streets and live rough .... the only time you will be committed is if you happen to get old and get Alzheimers (or need support at home) and your kids will shove you away, quick smart!

The insane used to be locked away where they belong in the USA ... until Ronald Reagan came along. Now they are dumped on the streets or put in jail.

The same thing happened here and we ended up with a new breed of homeless.
