That mystery is solved. Now how did the wing get thousands of miles from the search area off WA?

Obviously no-one has had a clue where this plane crashed. The whole search is ridiculous and extremely costly for Australia. Abbott has committed us to pay for most of it. So far it's officially supposed to have cost close to $80 m, but it would have to be a lot higher. China who had the most number of passengers on board hasn't contributed at all. Australia is a soft touch. The plane has gone forever and we're just wasting money on a futile exercise. Abbott thinks it makes him look good to be leading the charge.

That might be true, but at least they're being practical. What a stupid idea - searching for a plane which has probably sunk hundreds of km's in some ocean or another somewhere in the world. The search has been a guessing game from the start.

Australia has led the hunt for the plane and Australian authorities said they were confident the search for MH370 was being carried out in the right area.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott confirmed the search would continue in the Indian Ocean.

"We have invested upwards of $100 million into this search. I believe that is appropriate because not only were there six Australians on that plane, but millions of Australians, almost every Australian at some point in time is an air traveller and we owe it to the hundreds of millions of people who use our skies," Mr Abbott said.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said despite the Malaysian government's confirmation, the French-led investigation team was being cautious.

"I think prime minister Najib has said what everybody expects and that is it is part of MH370," Ms Bishop said.

[The La Reunion find] is consistent with all the work we've done, so we're confident that we're looking in the right area and we'll find the aircraft there.
Australian Transport Safety Bureau chief Martin Dolan

"It has already been confirmed it's from a Boeing 777. I understand that MH370 is the only Boeing 777 unaccounted for, so one can assume that this is from MH370.

"The French want to match further details, they are carrying out a very thorough analysis of it, to be absolutely 100 per cent certain that it is part of MH370.

"The words coming out of the French-led investigation is that there is a high probability, that there is a strong presumption that this is part of MH370 and I think that was probably always the case once it was confirmed it was from a Boeing 777."

We have invested upwards of $100 million into this search.
They should have a global fund for these things so no one country has to pay. It is a heavy burden for a small economy. Why isn't Malaysia airline funding this?

Take 10 c from every passenger that travels for the fund.

I think it's a waste of money because everyone in the know realises it was sucked into a worm hole and The Langoliers got them.

Think for a moment as to which cultures contribute the most for humanitarian needs like the search for this plane ... Because the Chinese government has zero accountability to its people they are building infrastructure all through the African continent, not for humanitarian reasons, but to gain control of resources. Sure, the USA has done this to some extent since WW2 but not like the Chinese are.

I often think and hear from other expats the west has gone soft.

"WW and W" western... white and weak.

Sad really.

That's why every western country now has an illegal immigration issue. We are too soft.

Come and live here.... you will have a great life... get more than the basics of life and you get it all for doing nothing....... and you can do nothing for the rest of your life.

Man, if I was a potential refugee or economic migrant.... I too would be on the next boat... it is too good to not attempt and the rewards are worth the risks. A life time of luxury (well if you consider... safe water, food, a roof, and some disposable income and a holiday every year a luxury) all paid for by the state.

We are coming... white people.... move over... make room...... get out your cheque book.
