Is 65 really considered old anymore? I don't plan to retire. Retirement doesn't' seem to do anyone in my family any good ... my dad is almost 80 and still works even though he doesn't have to. He works because he saw the quick physical and mental decline of his mother and brother after they retired.

That's great. I admire people who want to work for as long as they can and in many cases it improves longevity of life, but running a massive country like the US would be physically demanding also. Maybe Hillary's got the mind for it and her staff can do all the legwork, but would she be as sharp as she was a decade ago? Maybe.AiA in Atlanta wrote:Is 65 really considered old anymore? both Reagan and Thatcher were in the early stages of dementia when they ran their respective countries.

That's a good comparison. She's definitely got more to offer than either of them.AiA in Atlanta wrote:both Reagan and Thatcher were in the early stages of dementia when they ran their respective countries.

Nonsense! Thatcher was only 54 when she first became PM in 1975. She retired at 65 in 1990.AiA in Atlanta wrote:both Reagan and Thatcher were in the early stages of dementia when they ran their respective countries.
On the other hand, Reagan was 70 when he became President in 1981 and 78 when he retired in 1989. He certainly was "losing it" towards the end.
I gather that Americans don't think that somebody running for President when they should be taking World Cruises and writing their Memoirs is a bad thing. It's "Appearance" isn't it and most of all MONEY?
I have no real interest in American politics but I do have American friends and none of them want to see another Clinton in the White House.

Do they want to see another Bush in the White House? It seems Jeb is getting a lot of financial support from the farmers and stands a good chance of getting elected. He might appear to be a little different to his father and brother, but he would have been raised with the same extremist beliefs that will ultimately over-ride any modern ideology he might be promoting.Neferti~ wrote:I have no real interest in American politics but I do have American friends and none of them want to see another Clinton in the White House.

It looks like the US is as desperate as us in seeking potential leaders. Trump, aside from Hillary, is probably the best on offer.Neferti~ wrote:Would you believe a couple have even said they are going for Trump!!!

As I said, I don't know much about American politics but the candidates haven't been chosen yet. There is an awful lot of hoo haa before that happens.
