I went back to work last week after a week down around Canberra and the snow and It felt balmy in the high teens here in comparison. That said I never really felt cold down there as I made sure I had good warm clothes while the buildings and accomodation are well set up for the cold weather. I feel colder here as most places are built for a sub tropical climate. I must say I enjoyed the pubs with open fires. 8-)

It's a bit like that in my area. I've never had to wear a coat in winter, but this year has been an exception. I've even thought about airconditioning, but on principle I won't as NSW electricity prices have risen substantially since the carbon tax was revoked. Apparently 3 out of 5 people in NSW don't have heating because of this. So much for all these energy savings Abbott promised us.

My gas and electricity bills went up again on 1st July and power bills are said to be going up by 30% over the next couple of years.

Obviously Abbott is not to blame for the weather but he can surely be held accountable for the constant price hikes. Mike Baird is even worse. He actually hinders/blocks price reductions.

At least two people - maybe three - have died this winter of carbon monoxide poisoning because they've tried to heat their homes with barbecue beads. When we had the carbon tax - the price was regulated and those on lower incomes received an energy subsidy from the government which helped them a little. Now there is nothing, except letters from the energy companies announcing price rises.
According to the Prime Minister, abolishing the carbon tax will provide instant financial relief to consumers.

"When this bill is passed, this Government estimates that power prices will go down by 9 per cent, gas prices will go down by 7 per cent, and that means that the average power bill will be $200 a year lower and the average gas bill will be $70 a year lower,"
