Oregon Ends Prohibition!
Another US state ends the 80 year prohibition of cannabis use - Oregon. Not my state however. Georgia politicians are like 21st century segregationists. They did however pass a cover my ass CBD-only medical marijuana law recently however. The passage of this bill wasn't actually to help anyone but to let weak partisan politicians say, "Look what we did to help the children!" You still can't get cannabis in Georgia. Legally, that is.

Australia is the same, although NSW is pretending to be progressive at the moment and considering whether medical marijuana should be legalised. Victoria is talking about legalising it too. Already there has been massive interest with investors lining up for shares in various potential companies if it goes ahead. The grog manufacturers would be opposing this as well as the wealthy Christian conservatives. If it does get legalised though, there will be strict conditions attached to its use and it will only be available to the terminally ill.Not my state however. yet on the whole Cannabis is bad for you...
happy with medicinal use, but harming society with overuse and abuse I am not ok with.

It should be freely available for medicinal purposes and at least decriminalised for anyone else.

Yet while it's illegal - overuse continues to increase. Perhaps it would be better if it was legalised and at least the government could collect tax on it. It would be a better alternative than alcohol for many people.Rorschach wrote:yet on the whole Cannabis is bad for you...

I believe that it has been decriminaliased in the ACT. It is still illegal though to "possess", etcetera.
I really have no idea as I was never interested, nor hung around, people who smoked pot/grass or whatever. Several girls I went to school/uni with in Melbourne got hooked on heroin and a couple overdosed in their late teens or early 20s. They weren't friends of mine but I knew them. I've no idea whether they started smoking cannabis and "progressed" but I think in at least one case, the boyfriend was involved.

I would consider cannabis as a gateway drug... but simply because of it's status as illegal. It forces it's users to go to drug dealers, exposing them to fluffy bunnies who may push more addictive shit on them.
"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

Re: Oregon Ends Prohibition!
The problem in the USA is that the federal government still classifies cannabis as a Schedule I drug which is crazy ... I mean, nobody, except maybe Roach, believes cannabis is as dangerous as heroin but there it is. So a state like Orgeon or Washington or Colorado can decriminalize cannabis but it sets up confrontations between the state and the Feds. People can still go to jail in Oregon for cannabis but it wouldn't be the state government that puts them there.
