Could not a virtuous man develop a moral code by virtue of his virtues? It seems like a virtuous thing to do.I merely pointed out that to be virtuous there must first be a moral code.

He could, but why would he?
What makes him think he is virtuous in the first place.
Society deems what is morally correct and therefore what is virtuous.
To create your own moral code and hence what is virtuous according to you would hold no weight.

That's quite a philosophy, you have there

He is a humble man who does it merely because he is virtuous, not to extol his own virtue. You need not thank him.He could, but why would he?

What is society but a collective of individuals? It holds weight by virtue of it's virtuousness.Society deems what is morally correct and therefore what is virtuous.

I doubt a humble man would trouble himself with virtues.freediver wrote:He is a humble man who does it merely because he is virtuous, not to extol his own virtue. You need not thank him.He could, but why would he?

BTW you are also ignoring the fact that what is virtuous in one society is not in another.

Islam's problems are largely political. They failed in establishing a moral code, and equated the moral with the legal. They consider the same basic acts to be virtuous. They just consider a lot of nasty things to be permissible and necessary. They allow them into the moral code, without considering them virtuous. This is the root of much of the contradiction within Islam.
Islam is actually aggressively virtuous. They don't go on about not being 'holier than thou'. They are holier than you and they want you to know it. It is a big selling point for them, perhaps second only to the victimhood narrative.

They have a moral code, it is spelled out as a way of life... political and otherwise in the Koran and the hadiths etc...
they have different moral values and as such hold different things virtuous.

Yet if you speak to a Muslim about it they clearly hold the same things to be virtuous. Even the lunatics. Same virtues. Different moral code.
