Windows 10
Appears that Microsoft are launching Windows 10 at the end of next month. I already have them prompting me to "reserve my FREE upgrade" both on my Laptop (Win 7) and Desktop (Win 8.1).
Anyone got any ideas or views about this "new" Windows? It seems that most people dislike Win 8.1, but I haven't had any problems with it. I found it more of a learning curve to go from XP to Win 7 than from Win 7 to 8.1.
Normally I ignore upgrades of Windows and go with what my "next computer" comes with rather than upgrade. I did, however, go from Win 2000 to Win XP without any problems and I was playing games back then.

Re: Windows 10
Apparently Win 10 installs updates automatically with no option to change the settings. Personally I am not interested in Win 10.

I think I will wait until I have to buy a new computer that comes with Windows 10. Both my laptop and desktop are working just fine ... I doubt Win 10 offers anything exceptional that I "need" (or must have).

A good idea to wait and see what happens.Super Nova wrote:I will go for windows 10.... however I will wait 6 months for the rest of the world to test it.

I just updated to IOS 8.3 on my iPad and really wish I hadn't. It has slowed the pages loading, the screen freezes, all sorts of things are going wrong( even my camera no longer works, although I am not sure I can blame the update on that even though it was fine before I updated). Anyway Apple tell me it's three years old and i just need to suck it up and buy a new one. my wife had heaps of problems on her iPhone since she updated to 8.3 too, so I haven't updated my iPhone( I don't have enough storage anyway).Super Nova wrote:I will go for windows 10.... however I will wait 6 months for the rest of the world to test it.

Old tech (3 years is old) should not be updated. However you need the latest security patches so you have to.skippy wrote:I just updated to IOS 8.3 on my iPad and really wish I hadn't. Now you have to upgrade to a new iPad and phone. Clever aren't they.
Anyway, I update every 3 years anyway.

I tried hitting the 'reserve' button in my control panel. Nothing happened.

Microsoft site says.
Can I get my free Windows 10 upgrade even if I didn’t reserve?
Yes. The easiest way to get the free upgrade is to reserve, but you can upgrade even if you don’t reserve.
Once Windows 10 is available, we’ll begin notifying devices that their free upgrade is available. Just open the Get Windows 10 app to schedule your upgrade. Note: Some notifications will go out as soon as Windows 10 is available; others may go out in the weeks or months following.
Can I reserve even if I didn’t get a notification?
Yes. You can reserve your upgrade at any time on any compatible PC by clicking on the Get Windows 10 app or the Windows Update control panel.

Re: Windows 10
I received an email from Microsoft yesterday. Something to do with "updates of our terms of use and privacy statement". No doubt everybody will get one of these emails.
As part of our effort to improve your experience across our consumer services, we’re updating the Microsoft Services Agreement and the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We want to take this opportunity to notify you about these updates.
The Microsoft Services Agreement will cover most of Microsoft’s consumer online services, including Xbox Live, Bing, MSN, Skype, OneDrive, Outlook.com and Microsoft account. You can see the full list here. The Microsoft Privacy Statement also covers most of Microsoft’s consumer products and services.
Simplicity – Many of our customers use more than one Microsoft service, and have agreed to many sets of terms and privacy policies. To make it easier to use multiple services, we’ve brought together these documents into a single agreement and a consolidated privacy statement that cover most of our consumer services.
Privacy – Our longstanding commitment to privacy has not changed. We remain committed to protecting your data, being clear about how we use it and putting you in control. For example, we do not use the contents of your email, chat, video calls, documents, photos or voicemail to target advertising to you. And as you’ll see when you read the Microsoft Privacy Statement, we offer a range of tools that enable you to make decisions about what data we collect. Additionally, we have launched a new privacy dashboard that makes it easier for you to make choices about how we use your data.
Transparency – We are using straightforward language so our terms of use and Microsoft Privacy Statement are easier to understand. In addition, we’ve put key privacy information all in one place, so that you no longer have to cross-reference several documents to understand the big picture. While this consolidation eliminates redundancies and simplifies the structure of the information, we continue to provide service-specific details to allow you to make informed choices about how you use our services. We’ve also added some additional privacy information about new features and functionality we’ll soon roll out, like those you’ll see on Windows 10.
The updates will take effect on 1 August 2015. If you continue to use our services after 1 August 2015, you agree to the updated terms. If you do not agree, you can choose to discontinue use of the services and close your Microsoft account before 1 August. If you are an Xbox Live subscriber, you will be prompted soon to accept the terms when you log in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One, Xbox 360 or at Xbox.com. If you are a parent or guardian, you are responsible for your child or teenager’s use of Microsoft services, including purchases.
Thank you for using Microsoft services.
