Re: Surrogacy
Bottom line Boxy, if children at risk were removed from their abusive environments permanently, then there would be no shortage of children available for adoption here in Australia, lessening the need for surrogacy.
Many people are resorting to surrogacy because they know how difficult it is to adopt a child here in Australia.
I could tell you a horror story about a lovely couple I know, who fostered a little boy for 3 years (he was 8 months when they fostered him) with a view to adopting him whereby his biological mother decided she wanted another crack at playing mummy after rehab, so was awarded custody.
This couple were devastated and never recovered.
This happens so often, so couples are reluctant to foster children.
It shouldn't be this way.

Why not adopt? Fostering children is a temporary thing, from the start, isn't it?

Are you stoned boxy?
Read my post again.... "Why not adopt"?
Because the system won't allow them to adopt first up in most cases ..... the couples are required to foster for a lengthy period of time first... until the courts decide the biological parent can no longer take them back.
In the instance of my friends, the little boy they fostereds bio-mother was a drug-addict and had been in a psychiatric facility due to paranoid schizophrenia for 2 years.
She was discharged, granted community housing, then applied to the courts to gain custody of her 3 year old son.
It is very difficult to adopt a child here in Australia, more so than paying a surrogate even, hence why so many couples are resorting to surrogacy to begin with.
Dont take my word for it...
Just read the summary if you're lazy.

This guy just doesn't get it. He is seriously fucked in the head. Molests kids, leaves one of his own children in poverty, in another country, and then tries to access money raised by others to care for the abandoned kid

Yes it's a disgrace.
I realise you want to legalise it to stop creeps like this boxy, but I can't help but think improving adoption laws might be a better option.
We have so many kids and babies right here in Australia who deserve to be placed in the care of decent families, ie, those from Struggle Street.
In doing so we are killing two birds with one stone.
Furthermore, when it comes to the creeps you mention above, legalising surrogacy won't stop the likes of them, (peddos) rather it will only make it more accessible for them to exploit here in Australia, no need to go overseas for a surrogate, when they can legally acquire one here in Oz.

Re: Surrogacy
Making adoption easier isn't going to stop douchebags like this. International surrogacy needs to be outlawed, and replaced with a domestic alternative (you can throw adoption into that mix, if you like) so that abuses can be dealt with effectively.

Re: Surrogacy
International surrogacy cant be policed, as we cant dictate the laws in others countries ... as was demonstrated with the Bali 9 incident.
There will always be creeps who go to extremes to get their hands on kids, the best we can hope for is an international task-force focusing on catching them in the act.
I still don't think home-grown surrogacy is the solution though because for every legal surrogacy arrangement here in Oz, there will always be one illegally obtainable from an impoverished 3rd world country for a fraction of the cost.
Often, cost isn't an issue for these creeps anyway, they operate from rings which pool their filthy funds to gain access to kids though their own networks.
I don't believe convicted child sex offenders should be granted visas and or have access to anyone's children, not even their own, though unfortunately, our cracked legal system disagrees with me.

Re: Surrogacy
Well, we can legislate against returning after procuring services in other countries. Or at the very least, disallow the return of the resulting children (effectively removing the demand).mellie wrote:International surrogacy cant be policed, as we cant dictate the laws in others countries ... as was demonstrated with the Bali 9 incident.
Disallow the trading of kids across borders. It's a bureaucratic nightmare, where no one, on either side of the border, needs to take responsibility.mellie wrote:There will always be creeps who go to extremes to get their hands on kids, the best we can hope for is an international task-force focusing on catching them in the act.
Don't let them come back. Fixed.mellie wrote:I still don't think home-grown surrogacy is the solution though because for every legal surrogacy arrangement here in Oz, there will always be one illegally obtainable from an impoverished 3rd world country for a fraction of the cost.

Re: Surrogacy
Dont let them come back?
Then you would have the human-rights do-gooders on your back...the same turds who want the ISIS cretins to be returned to Australia also.
And you would have other nations complaining that we are off-loading our rubbish/crims onto them to support/contend with.
Unfortunately boxy, bureaucracy isn't always this cut and dry.
Though I agree with you, if it could be done, this would be a good starting point at least.

Re: Surrogacy
If you give them a local option, there is no need, and no excuse, to go elsewhere (other than you're an obvious douche who should never get access to children in the first place).
