I had forgotten about that. Iraq introduced the petroeuro. Iran is still pushing to use it and this could be another reason why the Coalition want a war with them. Sanctions were imposed on Iraq the same way they've now been imposed on Iran. We were warned about WMD and now we're being warned about Iran starting a nuclear war. There's a pattern here.Outlaw Yogi wrote:Anyway the real reason Bush and Co wanted to take out Saddam was because the US had got OPEC to sell oil for US dollars only, thus artificially inflating the value of $US, as other countries had to sell their products to the US for less than real value to obtain $US to buy oil.
Saddam started selling oil for Euros, the Russians immediately sold off 1/3rd of their $US reserves and the $US took an instant dive. The yanks were worried Saddam would trash their artificially inflated economy so got rid of him. It's that simple.

Re: The Hidden Hand of ISIS: An American Fuck-Up
What everyone needs to realise that in this region the people need strong and hard leadership to keep the peace. These guys have been fighting each other since the beginning of time.
The quality of life for the poor Iraqis is appalling now. Under his rule Christians were save, Iran fear Saddam and the factions between Sunni and Shia were kept in check. Now total chaos is the order of the day. People fear for the lives very moment of the day, factions are fighting each other. Christians are being exterminated.
The fact remains that this region is not educated enough for western democracy.
I got told by a Muslim yesterday that in Egypt it was warned "do not let the illiterate vote" and the reason is, they believe whatever they are told, are easily bribed and cannot understand the consequence of their actions.
Better a good king than a bad democracy.
There is going to be bloodshed here in a big way if Iran goes nuclear.
The west has created this problem and it needs to understand that a stable government, while not perfect is the best way forward until the people decide they want change, not the west.
We stuffed up Iraq. There was never a real threat to the west by Saddam. Now there is no-one to keep Iran in check.
It is only a matter of time before something kicks of Israel and all hell, literally will break lose because of the chaos we have created by the vacuum of power we so cleverly created.
We should never have dismantled the Iraqi army. We should support the middle east Arab states who have recently formed a coalition to address the threats on Saudi's border and help them police the region as they understand the region better than anyone else.
When ever I hear the term, "to protect America's interests" I shudder.

Do you know absolutely nothing but biased Conspiranut hatred towards the Coalition (make that any Coalition)? That you post such rot?
I suggest you get educated on the issues.
You think Ahmadinejad and the Military were interested in just producing electricity?

Yes, saddam was the Iron fist Iraq needed to keep a peace of sorts.
I notice that everybody seems to forget how cowardly and two faced the Yanks were concerning Iraq.
Saddam was America's buddy. Donald Rumsfeld brokered the deal for the chemical and biological weapons Iraq had, which were destroyed in Desert Fox (1998) and then used as an excuse for the 2nd Invasion in 2003.
The Yanks had been banging on about Saddam so much I actually came across Yanks on the net who reckoned Iraq was responsible for jet liners crashing into US symbols of power on 9/11.
The Yanks told the Kurds "Attack Saddam, we'll back you up". So the kurds did and the Yanks let Saddam's crew slaughter them.
Then the Yanks were going on about invasion, but weren't game enough untill Iraq agreed to dispose of their Scud missiles and had other countries with competent militaries to back them.
Piss poor form.
If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

Ahmadinejad was hostile, but he's gone and has been replaced with a more moderate leader. There's hope and it's worth trying to aim for world peace rather than giving up altogether and just continuing the warmongering. Israel is in less danger if Iran is prepared to be more compliant.

YOU make me grouchy, by continually posting rubbish.
When the world blows up you and The Greens will all be gathered in a circle singing Kum-bay-a no doubt.

You'd prefer perhaps a Hussein Empire with Saddam king of the Arab world and a nuclear power perhaps???
